Just saw this new video on noodler's web site about how to use speedball nibs in noodler's pens, as well as some new pens / new colors / non-flex Konrad nibs. Man I do love all the noodler's videos! I'd love to be able to get those new ebonite Konrad colors, I'm trying to get all of them and have been successful so far, but not being able to go to the Boston show may put a wrench in the works.

 

Anywho, thought you all would wanna watch!

I would love to go to a pen show...anywhere. Sadly, they don't seem to have them in North Dakota.

 

I love my two ebonite Konrads and would never hurt them. However, I did just damage the nib on a regular Konrad. I'll admit that I'm curious to try out the Speedball thing.

Proud resident of the least visited state in the nation!

Could anyone please explain what these speedball nibs are? Are they a sort of rollerballs? And which kinds of regular nibs will be available? I'd love to watch Nathan's video, but I can't, because there is music in it for which my country's (Germany) musicians' agency (GEMA) has not given the rights. I don't really understand how this comes about, but it's a message I get regularly when wanting to watch something on YouTube.

I still kick myself for not getting one of the Ebonite Konrads. The Dixie one was my favorite. But I also loved the Ripples.

Speedball produces art supplies. They produce steel calligraphy nibs. Nathan uses a C-4 and an A-0 in his video in a Konrad. These nibs have the Speedball overfeed. The nibs are readily available on the net in calligraphy kits. I find that I have all the supplies, minus the tiki torch, that Nathan uses in the video. I see some inky fingers in my near future.

I cannot justify spending money on another pen now because I am moving, but I may just have to get a Methusela's Pine Cone or Sahara Ripple

I've been wanting a Neponset for a long time. I wish I could go or knew someone who was going so I could have them pick one up for me.

Interesting video. It wouldn't have occurred to me to put Speedball nibs onto fountain pens (but trust Nathan to do something wacky like that and make it -- apparently -- work fairly well).

Ironically, I was just in eastern Massachusetts this past weekend, for my husband's niece's high school graduation party. Pittsburgh to 35-ish miles from Boston is a really long trip to make in just a short amount of time -- especially when the entire trip home was just under 24 hours (including stopping for the night...). :glare: So no Boston Pen Show for me either.... :wallbash:

I have to defend the GEMA here. I just visited their website and they explain that it's not them who didn't give the rights, but it is YouTube who hasn't bought them and then gives this misleading explanation on why I can't watch some videos.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
