Airmail Wality 71Jb In Solid Colors

Recommended Posts

The Airmail pen company is well known in India and abroad and there are already several reviews about their pens on FPN and elsewhere.

They are known for making ED pens with transparent barrels. They also make Jumbo sized ED pens (6.3 inches approximately when closed, even longer if posted) in the series called 71 consisting of 71J(Jumbo marbled) and 7JT(Jumbo with transparent handturned barrel). Their new model in this series is called the 71JB (already reviewed by manojd) which was so far offered only in black acrylic with an engraved cap band and domed end jewels. They have now introduced this pen also in solid colors which this review will attempt to document. They call these as "English" colors since the colors are inspired from the colors of the english duofolds from the 50s.

The pens are fitted with the standard monotone yellow Airmail steel nibs, it seems the nibs on the 7JB have recd a little bit more attention, the pens have been good writers so far.

Cheers!

Thanks for the information, Hari. I've been considering an Airmail pen and I like the addition of the solid colors.

Looks great, Hari - can I ask where you get your Jowo nibs from? I'm only aware of one (US-based) seller *other* than the Goulet Pen Shop - namely "Meisternibs" an offshoot of the Edison Pen Company. Their nibs are a few dollars more - but it's the postage cost to Australia that pushes them way beyond affordability for me!

Hari...this Wality fusion is just wonderful...I personally feel that the combined effect of the pen and this Jowo nib is aesthetically just on the spot...great looking combo...keep up the good work...

I am buying my nibs from the Indian JoWo agent, asapens.in/eshop

Not sure why they don't show the nibs on the website, but they do have the nibs.

Ah well...you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs...he he...but the end result is worth it...and of course it helps that you are experimenting with not-very- expensive pens...but the question is what would you now do with the two caps and barrels...

Hari, although I like the factory nib on my pen, I sure want to try a JoWo on another. Which of JoWo and Bock would you recommend as generally smoother nibs? Also, if I buy from ASA, do you know if they do the nib change ere dispatch?

Thanks in advance

I recommend Bock. YMMV. reg the second question, that only they can answer.

Did you use the feed from the screwon JoWo unit from ASA? I'm trying a similar fusion(but so far I've only used the Wality feed), any tips? How did you end up breaking the sections they're pretty strong)?

Not only the feed, I used the complete screw on JoWo nib unit itself. It has been threaded into the wality section. It is while creating the threads inside the wality section that the section broke. As you can see from the pictures, using the complete nib unit allows you to use a Cartridge or a Converter also.

Remarkable! Not a simple DIY process, but seems worth it.

It is a beautiful design and your cartridge/converter modification makes it even better.

What size is the 71JB?

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?
