Ranga Pen With Montblanc 149 Vintage Nib

I have been waiting to write this for a few weeks now.

Ever since I saw Ranga pens I though of having one.

I sourced a split ebonite Montblanc 149 nib from Five Stars Pens, had it ground to a stub by Greg Minuskin and shipped to India.

The end result is a Bamboo ripple green pen.

Pictures are by Kandan from Ranga Pens, as I could not get any better ones with my iPhone.

Pen size is:

Diameter 18.75 mm

Lenght closed 165.1 mm

Needless to say that craftsmanship is first quality, the nib is so nice, it is very hard to put it down, I use Pelikan Brilliant Green ink, to match pen color.

I am very happy with it.

Thanks to all involved in this great pen.

Cheers,

Gilberto

Hi Gilberto,

this is not fair, starting such a topic and not adding excessive writing samples.

Please add some, I,m vary keen to see it, and I'm sure not only I. :vbg:

Is it an eyedropper?

I am very sorry, you are right.

Here are some pictures and a sample.

Pens are Pelikan M 1005 Demonstrator, Rangablanc or Montranga and MB 149.

By its size and being clipless I consider Meera strictly a desk pen.

Alles gute!

Would love to see a picture of this in your hand to get a sense of the size again in comparison with a posted/unposted 149 M1000

@ Gilberto

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread.

Hi Rishikhanna,

I don´t have a MB 149 or Pelikan M1000 as they are too big for my preference.

On the following picture you can see a MB 342 a MB 146 and a Jinhao 159 (which has the size of a MB 149):

I never post my pens even the tiny ones (and I don´t consider the 342 as tiny it has the same size as a Pelikan M200)

Here we go, hope this helps:

If you have further questions please start an own thread in the "First Stop" forum.

@ Gilberto

Sorry again.

What a beautiful combination! I think the nib perfectly matches the size and shape of the rest of the pen. And from your writing sample, I would guess that you really enjoy writing with it. Thanks for showing it off!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
