Levenger Cobalt

Recommended Posts

I've had this ink in my cabinet for a long time, it was part of a 6 pack of Levenger inks. Cardinal Red is one of my favorite reds. Cobalt has become a favorite too. The ink has a sheen and is very dark.

Larger scan is here.

You can see more of the ink in action by looking at this thread where I review the nib, or here is an enlarged image from the nib review.

This was one of the first two bottled inks I bought - way back in the day, along with Raven Black. Used all the Cobalt Blue, still have a little of the Raven Black left. I really liked it.

Great review! I have used this for years and I don't know who likes who. Basically I think I like the ink but it sometimes looks like it has ignition properties. I think the pens are okay. Sometimes a very delicate partnership. Anyways, I love the colour, great differences on which pen and which paper. sometimes reminds me of the red 1670. Thosands of variations.

What I do love is your handwriting and fantasy.

Mike, what are ignition properties?

And I see what you mean about the variation.

Thank you for the compliments....and at the risk of blushing, do you mean my imagination?

Velly solly, by ignition properties, I actually meant ignition problems. Dat means a slow starter. Like when you use a pen, write, then don't write for a minute or two, you need to write an inch or two until the junk again starts to flow. That also pertains IMO to the pen. Truly great --un-ignition-problematic -- inks/pens can be left unused in the pen , with or without a cap for up to a half an hour or more with zero problems. Great unproblematic pens (especially pens, but it could also refer to an ink IMO) can be unused for weeks (capped of course) and then also write immediately without any of your precious fondling.

I bought this ink with my Levenger L-Tech Stealth and have not had the chance to use it. I chose it based on the color on their website but seeing here in the review makes me think I chose a pretty good looking color. The L-Tech was the first FP I have bought in well over 20 years. I was fond of using them as a kid and through high school. This is my first in ink bottle. I have others but none of the places I bought from shipped to Bahrain so I won't be able to play with any of them until Saturday when I finally get back to Texas.

So I finally got the chance to load this ink up into my L-Tech. The ink seemed very wet with the medium nib and feathered and bleed all over my Moleskine notebook. I ended up taking it out of the L-Tech and put it in my Schrade Tactical FP with Montverde 1.1 mm italic nib. That paired with the Rhodia Webbie and boy, oh boy! The sheen on this ink is amazing. I just finished writing up some notes for work in this and there is so much red sheen I may not need to get the asa gao I've been eyeballing for the last two weeks. Thanks so much for your review.

OOOO..... good to know. Please post pics (perhaps even your own review). My bottle is old so I don't know if it has darkened (evaporated) over time. I'd love to see your images.

I'll try to post pics. I see that most people are using flicker but I have all my pics in Picasa. I'll try to get the same light as when I saw the most sheen but It's pretty dark here now and I only have a table lamp and you can still see the sheen.
