Homemade Midori Travelers Type Notebook

After reading a lot on the Midori Travelers Notebook, I decided to order one for myself and one for my husband. We are going to be going on four trips in the next few months and I thought it would be fun to have an actual "travelers" notebook. They also look pretty cool. After ordering them, I started watching a bunch of video reviews and decided to use some of the scrap leather I had around to make something similar. I cut the leather to the proper size, put little tiny slits on the ends to hold the elastic, and added some elastic my daughter found. When the Midori notebooks arrived, I found that I didn't do too bad. Here are some photos.

Mine is the bright purple one and the Midori is the black one.

The Midori one is quite a bit nicer, but considering the one I made was much less expensive and purple, I'm pretty satisfied.

Thanks guys :)

I made a few modifications to my purple one and my daughter and I made a small passport size for her. On mine, I changed the elastic holding the paper to the leather and made a small leather band to go around it and hold it together. My daughter used a silver elastic for her.

How do you like the Midori paper for Fps? I am considering ordering one from Goulet's and soliciting feedback from FP Forum members.

Thanks!

Wow, I love the purple and green together. Dare I say it evokes an image of the joker costume in the new Batman? Love it!

Very nice! "Clean", professional and DIY. I love the purple; very regal.

I am fond of the Staples Arc/Levenger Circa but wanted it customized and upcycled/recycled, so I made my own(see attachment).

It has a combo of blank paper, Cornell note paper, and narrow college ruled (the latter two home-printed) for different types of writing (brainstorming, planning, notes). The cover is a sturdier than usual shoebox.

I also made a 3 X 5 upcycled/recycled notepad, see my signature (Etsy store link).

Happy Making!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
