So trying to plan a Friday dinner after the show. Tin Roof Bistro at the Manhattan Beach Village Mall.

I am going to make a reservation so we have a good space. :eureka:

Just need a general headcount. Come one come all. You don't have to be in a posse. Just gonna eat and show off pens!

Who thinks they are in? Tin Roof is very family and kid friendly and they have a large heated patio (holds 20).

So speak up all!

As long as you are asking, Friday is the one night I can do it. I believe it will be for two, as my wife will be with me.

Assuming civilians are ok on this... ;)

As we will be behind enemy lines (read not at Peter's Cafe) there are no civilians (read we will take no prisoners), all will get adorned with ink.

Count me in for one. Sounds like fun. I looked up the Bistro's website and it looks good.

jlepens, I will bring your #21 China Town Red, if I don't see you sooner.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Count me in!

Oh wait, does the restaurant take pens for food?

Bring me a few nice pens, and I'll buy your dinner and drinks!

As a regular, he doesn't have any nice pens but I buy them anyway. We make up for it in bulk. Once bought 50 Esterbrooks in one shot but I have no idea where I put them...

I will do my best to make it! That way I can get my Akkermann ink from Frank then (if he's OK with that) rather than have to deal with it during the craziness on Sunday, which I think is the only day I'll be at the show. If you all will have me, that is...

I would be happy to bring your bottle of #13 Simplistes Violette to dinner.

The reason you have no idea where you put those pens: there were really only 10, and I keep reselling them back to you, ( I have been using someone's time machine:))))

Maybe I can pay for dinner with gold nibs

I figure 5:30p to 6:00p for the meeting.

I'd like to get back to the hotel at a reasonable time to partake in the evening activities at the show.

  • 2 weeks later...

So what's the plan? Dinner at the Tin Roof Bistro at what time? It is an easy walk from the Marriot.

I am there whenever you tell me, Frank -- though I probably can't get there until 5:45 or 6ish, depending on traffic. And bring my ink! Heh.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
