Stub O' The Day

Here is my new vintage Esterbrook in blue with a 2314-B nib.

I think the ink looks darker than usual. The pen has been sitting a few days.

Beautiful pens, inks and writing @amberleadavis

Thank you.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Oooo ... That is truly nibporn! I have been intrigued by the thought of flexy stubs, because they must be most similar to writing with a quill. I have a few soft and springy cursive italic nibs, and they are a delight. But that Everysharp must be something else.

I wonder if Teri still has some.

My only complaint with the Ink Tank is that the tank is too small.  She told me she occasionally finds these - but the last time I saw her was at the LA pen show pre-covid.

From the Peyton Street Pens web site, they are now fitting the flexible Eversharp nibs to a Ranga model, but they are not listing stubs as available currently.

Ah, well. Fortunately, I do have another pen I can use.

Oooooh...that's a niiiice color!
I think I need to make my next stub nib more pronounced. That well defined down stroke looks so much better. My next one will be 1.0 or larger...0.6 is just too small to get good definition...I'll move that nib to the next give-away and upgrade.

You already say the Faber Castell (somewhere along the way, I lost the nib and I replaced it with a Schmidt B that has a custom grind)

The other pen is a cheap Jinhao that I purchased for $2 with the 1.5 nib.  These pens write great.

This is a custom pen with a Parker nib made from Parker materials from a former Parker engineer.  I think it is beatiful.

The pen isn’t handy, but here’s the lovely Edison Beaumont in Molten Ores with a wonderful 1.1mm italic nib. It’s one of my favorite pens.

I remembered I needed to post a photo elsewhere of this ink. Now the Edison Beaumont Molten Ores gets to be in the photo.

We had so few of the stub nibs, I've been hoarding them to use on some of the pens I have been making.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
