OMG!! :puddle: :puddle: :puddle: What beautiful stub nibs you all have on your pens! lol I want one of each one shown in this thread - the pen and the nib, of course.

I only have two pens with stub nibs, a Parker Vacumatic with a factory stub nib and a Sheaffer Lady Balance with a broad nib ground to a stub for me by Ron Zorn. Not sure my camera or my meager photographic skill are up to the task of taking good pictures of the nibs, but I will see what I can do and will post them later if I am successful.

I most certainly need some more pens with stub nibs; my wallet does not thank you folks for this thread, but I do!!

Here are eight broad/stub nibs ...

A man after my own heart. Great photos phlosar, really nice composition with the close-up, I love seeing those wide nibs!

Can you list the pens/nibs in your photo? There are a couple I can't identify.

Thanks. My little digital camera went through a few adjustments to finally auto focus macro. One nib was not in focus, but I like that the iridium/gold are clearly visible on the rest. I added a bit more description. Now I am at work, so I don't have the pens in front of me.

Christophe, thanks for showing that - I'm interested to see a writing sample with that pen. Is a stub nib unusual for a 100 Year Pen? I would certainly think so!

I have an earlier version of the VP I got in 1994, the faceted resin model which says "Namiki" on it, but it doesn't have a nib like that. Sweet!

I think the Sheaffer FT Madison stubs are the best I have ever found on any pen.

Today's stub is offered on a day (and I know this will make jar really jealous) when we are enjoying a temperature of -22 F and a windchill of -50. Days like this make me happy to have an inside job!

OMAS Revelations L.E.

This pen has a factory 18k stub nib, marked "ST" on the left side of the nib, near the base, and writes a fantastic wet, smooth line. The 18k nib offers a little spring so the down strokes can be made noticeably wider if pressure is applied, and the stub shape gives very thin side strokes. A great nib on a very nice looking pen.

Why, oh why, can't Parker bring this back, or else some other maker figure out how to make Penman Sapphire?

Winter here too. Had to go for the annual physical at 8am this morning and the temperature was only 58F. I doubt we will even make it into the 80s today. I even had to wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt. Up to 73F now though so back in shorts and barefoot.

And this is why you share your part of Texas with 600,000 Minnesotans every winter! I hope I get a chance to return the dig in August, when we are enjoying a cool lake breeze while you melt at 95 F and 95% humidity! Right now, though, I'm busy looking at air fares for a trip outta this freezer.

It really shouldn't be allowed to make someone envious with the same pen twice, David!

OMG, what a magnificent pen! Are you sure it's up to your Minnesota winters? They're much milder over here, if it wants to get away.

Did reading this thread make anyone else pull out a stub and start doodling a little?

No, I already had several stubs inked. Like David I've almost stopped buying pens with boring round nibs. My rotation almost always includes four to six or seven stub or italic nibs. Currently I have inked seven round nibs plus these four:

Pilot Custom 823, Mottishaw medium cursive italic nib, .76mm line width, Pilot Blue ink

Classic Pens LM1 Flamme Red, stub nib, .91mm line width, Skrip Peacock Blue ink

Monteverde Invincia Stylus Stealth, stub nib, .93mm line width, Noodler's FPN Van Gogh Starry Night Blue ink

Waterman Carene, Deb Kinney broad left oblique italic nib, 1.19mm line width, Waterman Florida Blue ink

Funny, I usually have at least one of them with black ink, but not right now. Being color blind, or having color deficient vision to be more precise, I don't experiment too much with colors other than black and blue. Most of those other colors I can't even tell what they are.

In total, my collection includes 56 pens in the stub/italic families. These pens tend to get quite a bit more rotation time than those with round nibs.

Here are a couple more pictures. Unfortunately these pens are not currently inked so there aren't writing samples.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
