That is a wonderful pen, and calligraphy is doing justice to the magnificent nib! Thank yWhat ou for sharing this!

It's a beautiful pen..and the nib has done a real justice to your superb handwriting...Do you call it a stub or cursive italic?

In rotation today is Pilot 78G – B Stub Nib inked with Lamy Turquoise Ink. This ink is my all time favourite Turquoise ink and it was also my first turquoise ink.

Pilot Stubs are more like Cursive Italics and have amazing line variation.

Kaweco makes italic nibs in 1.1, 1.5, 1.9 and 2.3 mm widths for the Sport classic. They do not make them for the AL-Sport, AFAIK. However, the nibs and feeds are interchangeable, if pulled from their carriers. As with other cursive italic nibs, the line variation is greater with the wider nibs. However, with a dry ink, the 1.1mm nib is moderately crisp. That is the nib used to write the text in the photos, above.

I have seen several complaints about Kaweco Sport nibs being excessively dry writers. I have yet to find one so dry it would not write nicely if used with an appropriately wet and well-lubricated ink.

Just inked up my Sheaffer Gaston Legacy 2 in lined gold with the wonderful Sheaffer stub. The pen was NOS but I am glad I finally got over the hump and inked it up.

Sheaffer stubs are great - I have stubs on both a Targa and a Legacy, very pleasing to use.

Thanks for this informative post David, I didn't even realise that Kaweco made 1.1 and above sized nibs for their pens. Your handwriting shows how the nibs can reach their full potential

I've been meaning to post here for ages... Nearly all my pens have stubs and are used frequently. Here's today's offering; A pen bought with my first months pay cheque some 35 years ago. Still as smooth a butter

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
