Montblanc L139 Long Window

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased an MB L139. It is the long ink window version. The MB 139 is my favorite pen. The nib is a medium. I purchased it from a fellow FPN member. I collect the 130 MB series and the long ink window models are the best looking pens in my opinion. My 2 other 139's are the short ink window models. I will post pictures soon.

Congratulations, that is a spectacular pen. And two more as well? I'm feeling a little green......

with envy.

Any photos of the nib(s)? Thanks for posting, usually when someone says, "pictures soon", we're in for a wait.

Cheers

Greg

A picture of the nib. The nib is marked "250" and is a two tone gold nib. I believe this pen was made around 1938 based on the nib marking and the long ink window.

Thanks Greg. I just uploaded a picture of the nib, however it is a little blurry. I used my iPhone to capture the pictures. I love the flat top MB's and I know that you do too.

The Masterpiece export imprint on the gold band, and a perfect nib, they don't get much better than this. I have a feeling I've seen this lovely pen before.

Thank you for feeding my 139 fantasy!

You have a lovely pen from an age when pens were beautiful in their simplicity rather then many modern pens which rely on over ornate design .Quality also seems to be lacking in many modern pens.

outstanding pen indeed

This is my MB L139 with the long ink ink window.

Looks like it's near mint. Congrats Greg!

Thanks Christof. After seeing your long window L139 I knew that my MB collection would not be complete without one. You did a fantastic job restoring yours.

Here you go Pavoni. As you requested. The two short window 139's have "Meisterstuck" on the gold band. The long window version has "Masterpiece" on the gold band. The long window was made for export in my opinion.

Congratulations! Fantastic pen. I agree, one of the best looking pens ever made, so very classy, with long window. One day I will get one, MB L139 is on top of my dreams...

Thank you very much for the side-by-side Greg.

Despite that which my wife has just called you for posting pictures of your fabulous MB 139s, I think you are a really nice and generous person :P I told her that you are not the sort of guy to want to purposefully ruin relationships and that anyway, I was not coerced into looking at this seductive post.

In all honesty, until your pictures above, I hadn't fully appreciated the difference between the short ink window and the more attractive long window version. Now I am starting to doubt the completeness of my MB collection

For me it is not just the cost of a second (but better) MB 139 but the cost of a potential divorce as well :hmm1: What to do?

Thanks Greg, I really enjoyed this one. But if I don't sleep tonight you know who caused it...

Well, in a potential divorce you might loose all your pens, just saying...I think you should give me your other MB 139 and forget about all this...:eureka: ...just saying....

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
