Q Connect Bank Paper

The Good Captain

Recommended Posts

I know this is an old thread but having recently come across a ream of q connect bank paper I noticed the feel was similar to newsprint possibly even brown paper bags does anyone know whether the 'specially designed surface" contains silica or other abrasive partials to aid in making carbon copies that could potentially damage or wear down nibs at an accelerated rate?

It's lovely paper and behaves amazingly well with ink (id love to use it for my loose leaf journal, midori booklets or filo fax refills) but i am a little apprehensive to use it with my nibs.

I'm paranoid about nib wear to excessive degree though and it may be entirely unfounded

I've notice no adverse effects on any of my nibs with this wonderful paper. Great for refills and I've bought a rotary perforating cutter to give me the 'removable' bits at the end of the notebook.

That's good to hear :-)

It does seem well suited to refills even makes the thin branded sheets seem TOO thick and behaves a thousand times better

I have worked through a 500 sheet ream almost, and as the Captain says, not noticed any issues with nibs.

HP Lovecraft wrote 100,000 letters and numerous novels with Fountain pens, and he apparently only wore out 5 nibs in his lifetime...... so i think you'd be pretty safe.

Just ordered a ream. I had been going to buy Tomoe River in order to make a diary for my Midori Traveller's Notebook, but this looks much better value! Thanks.

I've been using it in Fenner Crafts leather Midori-style covers, as well as the Midori themselves and it works out great value. I bought a rotary perforting cutter, so can even have the 'tear-off' facility as well!

I was just looking for this paper at Print Cartridge Direct, but could not turn it up in searches. Could someone be so kind as to post a link to this or another source with such low shipping cost?

Will be heading to UK soon and so looking forward to stocking up on papers.

Arttonic papers make you want to write. Enjoy them on Instagram if you can't get them in person.

Oh, how the mighty are fallen... the words "10% Recycled Content" now appear on most adverts for this paper. As expected, it is DREADFUL!

I had hoped to use this paper as a top sheet over a handwriting practice copybook but it is no longer suitable for writing even on one side. As you would expect for 50gsm paper, it has show through, yes, but it now adds spread, feathering, bleed through and spotting through to that list.

Here is an update for some Q-Connect paper purchased off Amazon UK Marketplace this year.

Paper : Q-Connect 50gsm Bank Paper, 10% Recycled Content, £7.74 for 500 sheets

Pen : TWSBI 580AL Fine

Inks : KWZI Azure #4 and KWZI Iron Gall Aztec Gold

First the label that was on the packet because it was otherwise unmarked in a shrink-wrap. This may be specific to my seller...

Then closeups to show the awful feathering...

http://www.dcoffey.co.uk/images/fountainpennetwork/misc/QConnect03.jpg

Then the reverse to show the bleed through...

The # of "Azure #4" spotted through onto the underlying sheet.

My advice is now AVOID this paper. It is cheap, yes, but you can always make something cheaper... and they have succeeded.

I will be using Ryman Bank Paper instead at £3.99 for 100 A4 sheets from now on.

As I've just messaged Daniel, the barcode on my (and possibly his) original ream is 5 705831 510159 and Google still brings up current suppliers and sources for the same named paper. Of course, I must stress that it could well just be the name - the quality of the 'original' looks to be sorely lacking now. BUT, I've no experience of these other supplies.

The Ryman is a great product - shame about the possibility of QC not being quite so QC'd!!!!!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
