Fountain Pen Day is coming soon, and I am curious, if anyone located in the San Luis Obispo/Five Cities/Central Coast of California area is interested in a meetup on Friday, November 2, 2012.

Post here or send me a PM, and we can get something arranged!

Depending on my work load I might be interested, where and when were you thinking? I live in the Five cities area and SLO or south county would be easiest for me.

If late afternoon or in the evening works best for work schedules, then perhaps sometime after 6pm. As for location, I was thinking in downtown San Luis Obispo might be the best, perhaps at one of the cafes/coffee houses.

I am watching you and your progress. I want to know what you do. We are sponsoring an event 11/2/13 which will include a live calligraphy contest, calligraphy class and fountain pen art work contest. Although the Calligraphy sessions will the live, we are thinking the fountain pen work be submitted in advance.

That sounds great. The meetup I am arranging is relatively informal ...more of a time to bring pens and inks...to show, share, trade, sell, or anything people want to do. Plus, I hope that by holding it in a public place, we can attract some people and promote fountain pens to them.

If there is enough response, it might become a regular meeting, as this area of CA does not have its own pen club.

Good work and good luck. I hope you will allow me to follow your communications. I wish you could use the Madonna Inn as a place to meet. The name would self promote your event.

Having received only one response, I think that this will have to be postponed until a later date than tomorrow.

I would LOVE to be a part of a FP group up here in SLO county. I would happily travel to any SLO county city; currently I'm in south county. I hope this idea of a group or meetup is still active! *fingers crossed!*

Sadly, I just moved from SLO county about two months ago, but perhaps there are other members, who are still interested in meeting!

Is there anyone on the Central Coast (SLO, 5-cities, North County) interested in meeting up?  I know this is an old thread but thought I'd give it a try..

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
