Much thanks for all your efforts on our behalf! I know you work very diligently to maintain this site for all of us who are afflicted with this fountain pen illness. I don't say it often but I think it all the time: thank you!

This site has become part of my morning ritual - I scan the Times on my ipad, then some local news, then go to FPN and wander around a bit. Nice to see that security issues are discovered and dealt with. I have, through some sad experiences, learned to NEVER put in a code, password, etc. when suddenly prompted by a screen - I only put them in when it is in a stream of connection that I began, I initiated. Some times this means I have to drop something I am in the middle of, and go back and start over again, but that is easier than cleaning up after a mess. my congratulations, and thanks, to the FPN people for keeping this site safe. asiras

Did you see the "DONATE"button on our homepage?

I tried it and it works...

So you flushed the nib? Or did you have to tinker with the feed?

Both :D.

Great news! I'd not spotted anything amiss but it's good to know that we are being looked after.

Just wondering as I only found out about this today, have affected members been contacted?

I appreciate the hard work and safe environment you provide! Thanks!

On the odd chance that the current skin is not one's favorite...where can one go to find other options as I do not seem to be able to find a "choice" and when I click on the link at the bottom of the page that says who created this skin...it states they no longer exst and redirects me to another site (Xenique).

I know it is likely here somewhere and I am just not finding it!

Thanks

Dave

Thank you very much for your excellent work.

Echoing Tokugawa's query, given the likely small number of FPNers likely affected, have they/we been contacted?

Given that I didn't even know about the security issues until I saw the "we've fixed it" thread, you guys are even *more* amazing and über-

dedicated. :notworthy1:

Although -- not being overly tech savvy -- I have to ask: what is that people mean when they talk about "skin"? I'm not familiar with the term at all.

Hi Ruth,

More information on skins can be found in the blog post linked to in the Recommend Reading box at the top right of the screen, second to last link, "New skins" :). It refers to the little box at the bottom left of the screen, where you can select a whole bunch of skins, 7 "new" ones, 6 of which are only available to registered members who are logged in. The Vault skin is the only one available to guests as well, hence the reset to the Vault skin. And skins are actually your interface to FPN and the database of posts and all the rest, very much like one can skin, f.e., many (software) mp3-players, IOW, change the look and feel of the interface.

Personally, I use Library most of the time :).

Thanks Wim. I've just spent a bit of time playing around with the different skins to see which ones I like. Although, to be honest, I may eventually go back to the default one -- a lot of the "fancy" ones seem overly busy, and/or are giving me some eyestrain when looking at the color for too long (they're not "restful" somehow, even the ones that sounded as if they would be....)

I also decided to play around with different fonts. (I like playing around with different fonts.... )

As someone who is totally uninitiated in forming skins,........... indeed even knowing what skins "are" in regard to computers & the like, I need someone to explain what all this means.

Does it affect me?

It may not pertain at all to my limited use of the Fora in the FPN.

I'm very curious though.

A "phising scam" needs an explanation to an old fly fisherman.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
