5 Noodler Inks: Dromgoole Exclusives

ninobrn99

Recommended Posts

Today I picked up 4 of the 5 exclusive inks from Noodler's made for Dromgoole's. Not bad colors at all! The inks are as follows:

Texas Pecan

Texas Live Oak

Texas Blue Bonnet

The Alamo's Twilight

Texas Black Bat

To sample the inks, I used a cheapie Sheaffer with a M calligraphy nib. First time I've used it too.

Let me know what y'all think:

Thank you for the compliment. The Blue Bonnet is a very nice shade of blue. A great addition to my Sonic and American Blues :)

Nice lineup! Every time I see a post with Live Oak, it's gorgeous. Might have to break down and order a bottle one of these days.

Ive sent a few emails to them hoping to buy online, and I havent had a response yet.

Lovely inks and bottles.

In order to appreciate the sweet, you must truly taste the bitter....

Nino,

Glad to see you again Tuesday. I also have the inks you tested. I like all of them. I don't have a "black light" anymore so I can't get the full benefit of Alamo Twilight. Texas BB is a fave. I always have something loaded with it. Texas Pecan is a great brown. But,as I posted elsewhere, Texas Live Oak makes me crazy. I love the colour but no matter what pen I put in into and/or what paper I use it bleed and spiderwebs terribly. Maybe I got a bad bottle as your test looks Ok. I may give it another try. You have given me hope. Probably see you again at Larry and Willie's.

Ooooh, I want some. Have you had any luck buying online? Do you have a phone number if not a website? And what's this about black light????

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Updating with 2 new inks: Noodler's Tanned Armadillo which is a Dromgoole exclusive for the Dallas Pen Show 2012. It is ph balanced and a durable ink. Also here is the Noodler's Comanche Rouge. Comanche Rouge is supposed to be reminiscent of one of the rivers here in Texas. I think it was either one of the battles or the Red River. I can't remember what Nathan's explanation was for it exactly, so I apologize for that. It is also supposed to look pink on very white paper, red on most others, and it should also reach a third shade. Once I brush up on it, I will update. Both are a one time run. After these are gone, they're gone. The materials are no longer available, so Noodler's will not be able to make anymore. I guess all I can say is get it while the gettin' is good.

The CR came out looking very orange in this scan. In person, it's a pinkish color on my Rhodia 5x5.

Those new colors are looking good - I'm sorta kicking myself for not picking some up today while I was at Dromgoole's :headsmack:

Currently using:Too many pens inked to list, I must cut back! :) I can guarantee there are flighters, urushi, and/or Sheaffer Vac-fillers in the mix!!!

I figured you did. They are pretty nice. I just loaded my Visconti with the Tanned Armadillo. I already wrote with a barrel of Rome Burning...I'm enjoying the pen. Review to come.

Dude, I loved your pens!!

Thanks! I ended up stocking up on the french-ruled Clairfontaine - I love that paper. I have my fingers crossed that Larry brings some of that Tanned Armadillo back from the Dallas show...if I would have known that no more was being made, I would have skipped on the paper and grabbed the ink. I may come in and get some when I drop by for the Wednesday event.

I really wanted to pick up that Parker "51" set, but it's not in the budget for a while, so I have to hope that no one else is feeling like vintage for a little while when they go to Dromgoole's :ninja:

Speaking of loving a pen, that Samourai is looking really great; it was awesome to see it in person!

Supposedly under a black light the Alamo Twilight sparkles. At least that's what Larry and Willie said.

I'll do a test for you if you like. I don't know off the top of my head though. If I can get to the store today, I should be able to do it tomorrow. I think that Dragon's Napalm is more of an orange where Comanche Rouge varies different shades of red/pink depending on paper.

Here is a review someone did on DN. After looking at it, I do recall the color more or less.

Hope that helps,

Nino

I found out yesterday that it's supposed to have a blue/yellow tint to it. It's to mimic flames.

GREAT!! I couldn't find the right words to expalin it to the forum. and I don't ahve ablack light anymore. Some of the problem is that hte mane of the inkisn't Alamo Twilight which would make you thing of the late evening. It's ALAMO'S Twilight which to me indicates the latter stages of the seige before the fall when it was on fire. Did Larry/Willie tell you?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
