I never thought I'd like such a dark purple, but it works! It's well behaved, has secondary potential as a completely different purple when diluted, and is affordable. Definitely recommend this one.

I'll be taking pictures of the ink's attractive sheen and posting them soon. :D

And I think I'll be doing a comparison on the dip nibs I've accrued lately.

Thank you for this review. I've been looking for a really dark purple. This is it!

I'm not in favor of natural selection. I'm just saying: Let's remove the warning lables and see what happens.

Great review. Fantastic ink. Also very wet and very well-behaved.

I use it all the time. Looks like an aubergine. Somewhat hard to describe in words... a sorta brownish purple-black!

Another great review and up to your usual high and informative standards. It is a super ink and I too have always classed it as a very dark purple.

I don't use it as often as I used to but it's not in the 'file' pile.

mh, you are a master of the sheen! Honestly, meant seriously. You have also taught me what to do to see this. But personally, I myself don't put all that much emphasis into shading, because when I write and read, I don't tilt the paper in the right light source to the right angle in order to see what the ink can deliver in regard to colour....

Nonetheless, excellent analyses and photos!

Your reviews are really great, I love reading them. I keep saying that... but I'm starting to feel like you should be paid to do this...

Rock on! Great review of a terrific ink. I just moved so my bottle is literally in a massive pile of other inks. I've been thinking of digging it out, and now I am sure to. Thanks.

Now Diamine just needs to add a braking dawn color and a new moon color then offer up the set :)

I love sheen, but for the life of me I cannot get this ink to have any sheen. I'm using a flex nib on Tomoe River paper. I'm wondering if there are different versions of this ink or something? I don't usually have any trouble with sheen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
