KI, great review and photos as usual. The ink and paper really compliment one another and you are getting some pleasant line variation with that nib too.

The leatherwork looks really well done. I like the way he has allowed for access to the back pocket of the notebook too. The front card slots are a nice touch too.

As you say the yellow stiching gives an attractive contrast but I hope it doesn't show up too much grime over time and use still it shouldn't be any worse than the white stiching you see with other leatherwork.

How do you feel about the button closure ? It looks to be a slightly different colour to the rest of the cover although they will probably age over time. A lot of covers use a type of elastic thread to keep the cover closed and this can also be useful for keeping other accessories together with the notebook.

Overall it appears to be excellent value for money and top line craftmanship. Looking forward to seeing a further update as you wear it in.

I'm a bit disappointed you did not have 'Daakusaido' embossed on it.

Thanks Bogon, you always have something good to say and also something to make me think.

I hope the stitching does not collect too much grime but it will add to the character as it ages? :eureka:

The button closure is solid. The leather is a different color for it. It is a lighter tan color. The original elastic band is usable but seems redundant to use it, so I just leave it tucked in the back cover. One thing I am noticing is my elastic pen loop needs to be facing the spine. I may need one of those self stick elastic loops if I want my pen to sit inside the button closure loop. So far, I have been using shirts with a pocket and have been keeping my pen there instead.

The cover's main purpose is for my church study notebook. "Daakusaido" did not seem appropriate. :headsmack:

I was going to look at the TN-like notebook covers next. Thanks for sharing.

Great review, pics, and handwriting of a very handsome leather cover...

I just took a look at Zenok's page, but didn't see any covers for a larger moleskine or rhodia (5.5 x 8.375), so, I might send Zenok a message to see if one could be made....would be nice....

Thank you. It sounds like they may take custom orders. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks for the review. That's a very handsome looking notebook cover. I can feel my credit card heating up now :(

What's that smell? :roflmho:

Got work from Zeno that he can do the larger size, but it's $90......with or without the snap closure strap.....

So, have to think about it.....

Very nice cover and superb penmanship. As the young people are prone to say, what's not to like?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
