And I suspect that 26 Groenmarkt Smaragd might be closer to Umber than Green Black.

Hi Amberlea,

This is something I've been intending to do but I still don't have enough Diamine ink to do reliable comparisons. It’s going to be a fun project, though.

I think Havasu Turquoise is closer to #11 Trêves-Turquoise than the original Turquoise. On paper Havasu Turquoise and #11 Trêves-Turquoise look extremely close, latter being just a tad bluer. I believe Mediterranean Blue would be spot-on but I don’t have it right now to be certain about it.

Regards,

Halid

Although the colours and behaviour of the Akkerman inks are very similar to various Diamine inks, I've found that the Akkerman inks are more suscepible to drying out on the nib than any of the Diamine inks I've tried. I wonder if the Akkerman inks are diluted and flow a bit drier? Dilution would also explain why the Akkerman inks seem to shade a bit more than their apparent Diamine equivalents.

It's quite possible that the difference is something bigger than this. For example, while I also believe Diamine are the most likely manufacturer of the Akkerman inks, I also wouldn't be surprised if they were instead made by whoever makes the Montblanc inks. Many of the recent MB limited edition inks also have similar colours. For example, consider the following pairings:

Treves-Turquoise & Ink of Friendship

Oranje Boven & Ink of Joy

Staten-Generaal Rood & Ink of Love

Thanks for all of these comparisons. In several other topics, people (I don't recall who, but more than one) said that the Akkerman inks were made by Diamine. I'm not how that coincides with differences in behaviors of the ink (of course, colors can be customized).

Akkerman aren't saying who made the inks, and no ink manufacturer has claimed responsibility. So it's all speculation based on similarity of colours and behaviour.

I already used and love Hofvijver Grijs, and recently ordered Diamine Grey.

The prpose to get some variation in my greys, but as a matter of fact these are absolutely identical. Great ink!

I can tell you that the MB inks are not the same as the Akkerman inks based on the results of my fade tests.

Also conceptually that would not fit: Montblanc is too exclusive to do toll production for 1 pen shop in The Hague, no matter how high the reputation.

I just tried Akkerman #10, their iron gall blue-black. I don't know about other Akkerman inks, but this looks *nothing* like the sample of Diamine Registrars I tried a couple of years ago (unless somehow I got a bad batch of of the Diamine). DRBB was at best, a watery blue-grey after it oxidized -- lots of shading, but that's about the only good thing I could say about the color. Akkerman #10 is MUCH darker; in the bottle it is very blue (and when I wiped the nib of the pen with a tissue it didn't seem to oxidize at all, and was a gorgeous medium blue) -- to the point where I thought that somehow I had gotten a mislabeled bottle. But sure enough, it did very quickly start to change. Within 24 hours it was much darker than the 2 year old written sample of DRBB, and in fact oxidized darker and faster than the sample I had been given of FPN member's Pharmacist's Urkundentinte (which I believe has a higher iron gall/tannin content than most commercial brands).

I will try to scan the pages tonight or tomorrow, to show the differences between all three inks (these were done on Piccadilly paper, in the blank sketchbooks that are sold at Barnes and Noble).

As I once pointed out -- no know-it-all-ness meant -- my Akkerman #10 IJzer-Galnoten blzw did in fact resemble Diamine's Registrar's Blue Black, optically on paper as well as via a paper chromatography. Nonetheless, I did find that the Akkerman wrote less dry and this could in fact be due to the fact that they (Akkerman) did nothing else than take the Diamine ink and add a small portion of tenside/surfactant/detergent... which can't be seen/detected on a paper chromatograph anyhow....

Resurrecting this post back to life in hopes that someone might carry on the work started by the foreposters - great work, you guys!

Diamine makes awesome individual inks, and as a whole they're pretty consistent too - to be able to get their colours (or something extremely close to it, anyway) in Akkerman's outstanding bottles would be awesome. I know that I'll be purchasing 05 Shocking Blue after my current 30ml bottle of Majestic Blue runs out, but I have so many other favourite Diamines that I might as well purchase those too.

I think Visvamitra did a comparison for each ink and a test which showed these.

Do you have a link to it? I can't seem to find it anywhere. They did do a few reviews of Akkerman inks, saying that they're equivalent to Diamine, but not giving any specific colours. I'm having a hard time trying to approximate the blue colours, they show up so inconsistently on computer screens.
