Oh MY!

That sure is a LOT of samples.... What are there, 200 of them? I don't think you're going to get through them all in a weekend unless you have a buttload of clean pens and an ultrasonic cleaner....

The truly crazy part is that they are all Baystate Blue and he just plans to paint his garage this weekend.

Seriously though, that is an impressive lot of samples. People who see my samples shelf think I'm a mad scientist or something, so I hope you have a good hiding place for yours.

Robert.

i saw a post about using a glass pen for quick sampling, so I got one of those too. I'm still working through the list to confirm the everything was receivedbut here is the list of should be there: I basically picked anything that looked blue-ish or purple from the website swabs, then removed the few that I had already. I'm still new to all this, so I figured this was a good way to get an idea of what I might like. Senor Goulet told me I have the record for most samples ordered at one time! I may have overdone it a little....

I showed my husband the photo of all those sample vials and he said that I didn't need to compete with you....

Okay. For those of you who need some entertainment this weekend and don't have as many samples, your challenge is o figure out what inks shawndo already had. :hmm1:

only 5 Noodler bottles, which I bought before I learned that you could buy samples. There are more that i didn't get, but the list was getting a little large, so i started restricting the list to the brands on this list.

--just noticed that I got a sample of Polar blue, which was one of the 5 bottles I already had :(

Shawndo, that's an awesome list. Please, please, please post a sample of the inks. BTW, a glass dip pen lays down a Very wet line and your FP's may write differently. For example, I found that Noodler's Midway Blue changes color depending on the wetness of the pen and to see the shading in Red Black its best to use an italic or flex nib. YMMV of course.

BTW, I hope you don't have cats.

You need a blowgun that fits those vials, just in case you find a color you don't like. A drive-by inking would make headlines.

Hey, this is great !

Put one drip of each into a mix, and show us what you get.

We can start a betting pool. I'll bet it is a brown.

Have fun.

I did compare the glass pen output to my fountain pens and I find that if I dab the glass pan in a paper towel for a 2-3 seconds before I start writing, it will get pretty close. Close enough to narrow down the list to find my favorites. In the end, I'll probably only use a few drops of each of these. I'll have to check out that ink exchange thread or find one of you guys that REALLY likes to do reviews.

I have a lot of samples too, and I've been slowly making my way through them. I use the same pen for sampling inks, and I fill it and then write with the ink for a few days. I want to see how the ink feels when writing, how it dries, try it on different paper, in different lighting, etc.

OMG! lol, wow. Now that is a proper ink sample collection! Nice1. Enjoy.

On a side note, is there a problem with the goulet pens website? I am in the UK and it will just not load up at all. :(

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
