Indeed. They are very light. They're a moulded plastic of some variety. Flexible, but the ridges are quite firm and solid. I purchased them at IKEA of all places! Hahaha.

This is what I used:

They're simple DVD racks. I simply traced around them and used a saw to cut them to the right shape.

As seen on fleabay for 3 times the ikea price....gaah.gif

These trays quite comfortably hold the largest pen I have (a 1928 Parker Duofold senior), so they'll quite easily hold almost any other pen that you have, unless it's something truly colossal.

Well I do have one that sort of fits "colossal".....that's a 146 beside it....

Have you tried a 149, Shagas?

You're welcome, Mike. It is a very nifty idea.

No, I haven't tried a 149. But then, I don't OWN a 149. My largest pen is my Duofold. Thusfar, anyway...

Well, I might have to send you a 149 to try :bunny01: :bunny01:

The space between the ridges, if I recall from memory, is 5/8ths of an inch.

Completion is just that little bit closer...

Frustratingly, you'll notice one huge (bleep)-up. The lift-tab isn't centered.

Shangas, can't you simply remove it and re-attach?

I may give it a shot, but I'm not sure if it's that easy. I don't want to damage the wood if I peel it off. It's simply glued on there.

Anyway, the whole thing is more or less finished. We just need to put in some small finishing touches. Such as some ledges to rest the top tray on (to stop it resting on top of the pens in the lower tray), and a few um...aesthetic touches.

The one SLIGHT issue with this box is that it's so big, it's tricky to find somewhere for it!!

Looking very nice, Shangas. Speaking of an iron, as Michael did: What sort of glue did you use to attach the leather tab to the wood? Some glues, such as PVA glues (Titebond for example) will loosen up if heated, so a warm iron placed over the area where the leather was glued may warm it up and loosen it up enough so that you can remove it without causing any damage.

Or, you can live with it. Another thing I always embrace when I make a mistake in building or making something - mistakes being a common occurrence for me - is the Navaho/Navajo belief that every creative design should have a deliberate mistake or imperfection in it in order to allow any evil spirits to escape from the design. Allowing the spirit to escape will prevent the piece from harboring evil and will prevent the maker from becoming ill or possessed. Of course, my mistakes are not deliberate, but I still accept them (if they cannot be fixed) and say they are ghost holes to release the spirit. This probably seems all foolishness to some, but it makes me feel better, anyway, and I can justify my errors. :P lol

I used a product called Weldbond glue. It's water-soluble, I believe. I haven't yet decided what I'll do. I still have a couple more steps to complete before the box is well and truly done.

I would like to find one of those little frilly tassels to loop around the keys. Just for a bit of decoration. A trip to the A&C store is in order.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
