Noodler's Liberty's Elysium

Got a sample and used it in both medium and fine points. Found it an OK ink, but the intense blue color is very beautiful.

Thank you for your review! ... Hmm, bleedthrough is in my eyes not so problematic, I think it is sometimes really beautiful... But the hue... this ink is not for my inkwell.

Looks kind of like a BSB that doesn’t eat pens as ravenously.

I have both inks. BSB runs more purple leaning. Liberty's Elysium has a touch of cerulean to it, but is still decidedly blue, not turquoise. And BSB doesn't eat pens. You just want to limit its use to something that is dedicated to that ink alone (because it does NOT play well with other inks -- even other Noodler's inks) and that you don't mind getting stained beyond all recognition.

Of the two, I do prefer Liberty's Elysium, but that's because of the color.

I have finally been able to tame NLE, using it in a Wing Sung 698 with the EF nib that came with a Wing Sung 659 a couple of years ago.

It writes the same width line as my Caliarts Ego, with an M nib from a Pilot 78G. However, it no longer bleeds through to the other side of a bath tile...

Waterproof, saturated, very deep blue. I love this color.

A similar color would be Hero 233 pigment blue. also very waterproof. Sailor Souten, monteverde sapphire, Diamine blue velvet, J. Herbin Eclat de Saphire are all similarly solid blue. Of them all, the liberty's and the hero pigment blue (which is dirt cheap and really, really good) are the two that have any water resistance.

Very nice review! Thank you for sharing. I have tried this ink several times - each a different sample. Each time I found that the bleedthrough/showthrough to be problematic in my journals (Tomoe River paper and Midori paper). I also have had issues with nib crud with each sample tried. While I love the color, flow and lubrication, the other things make this ink a no-go for me.

Nice blue collection, Honeybadgers! But I prefer inks which tend to blue black or midnight blue.

Try De Atramentis indigo blue, atlantic blue, diamine oxford blue, De Atramentis document fog grey (a little fiddly but an awesome color) R&K Salix (iron gall) or my favorite, Diamine Registrar's blue black (really faint initially and darkens a ton, amazing performance on any paper) for a more vivid BB, parker quink BB is really really nice looking, for amazing value, Pilot BB is super waterproof, has red sheen, and comes in a 350ml bottle, I really hate lamy BB. Noodlers bad belted kingfisher for ultimate permanence. Nemosine Pleiades BB is a solid performer too.

LE is more on the Royal Blue side of things where BSB is an Electric blue with a hint of purple. Beautiful color the LE. It's a bit of a higher maintenance ink, but if you have a descent enough flowing pen it's a beauty.

Thank you for these inky hints! I don't know how I could miss Registrar's blue black! The Bad belted kingfisher is extraordinary interesting. And I'll have to try the Pleiads!

I used this ink for a couple of years and loved it. Trying other colors, I got away from it for several years. In the mean time, it was stored in the dark, tightly sealed, at 70 degrees. When I noticed it again, I was pleased and filled a wet flowing Pelikan. It was dry in that pen. Dry. I haven't used it since, though I love the color and its previous performance. Anyone have such an experience with this ink? I asked this question before and received no response. And, probably rightly so.

My LE cuases hard starts easily. That's why I don't use it right now. I haven't tried it in some of my wetter pens like my FPR Himalaya or Charlie, both with ebonite feeds, because I prefer using other colors and inks right now.

Has anyone seen BSB's issues replicated with this ink? Specifically does it not work well with other inks or stain? Just tried this in my Pilot Metro and love the color but thinking it may have to be a short-term use/flush often kind of ink.

I haven't found the ink to stain as such - but it can leave behind a blue powdery-looking residue in the grooves of the feed, that takes a bit of scrubbing to clean off. So I tend to be a bit conservative as to which pens I use it in.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
