Edison Morgan Heki-Tamenuri Urushi Clipless Bulb-Filler

Phew! I don't know if names get much longer than that!

I've been waiting for this pen (or one like it) for a long time. I originally spent a lot of time ogling Nakayas, but when I found out Brian Gray was working with Ernest Shin to do Edison urushis and that I'd be able to get a bulb-filler rather than a C/C pen, I stopped ogling and started saving. I finally ordered the pen for myself last year as a reward for becoming a full-time writer. It's an Edison Morgan clipless bulb-filler lacquered with heki-tamenuri urushi, and it has a B rhodium/ruthenium nib that I think looks great (I was a bit worried the nib wouldn't match the heki-tamenuri, and I'm sure some of you would have ordered a yellow-gold nib instead, but I love the combination). I'll take better pictures and write a full review later, but I just couldn't wait to show it off! :cloud9:

outstanding  congrats

Beautiful pen. How do you feel with step off?

It doesn't bother me at all. It's rounded and very smooth, and the way I hold the pen, it only barely brushes against the inside of my thumb.

WOW!

That is the BAWSE!

(I don't know the exact definition of "bawse," but my fb comedian friends use it in a highly flattering manner, so I'm pretty sure I have the meaning correct.)

Thank you. I have got a Dunhil 2000 with a similar looking step off and it doesn't bother me either.

Congratulations and I hope you pen many more books with your new pen.

Glad to see more of Ernest's work being posted! Awesome pen. I've never seen an urushi bulb filler until your post.

Fantastic pen!

Can I ask a dumb question? With a bulb filler on a pen without a window, how do you know when it's full?

Wow gorgeous pen. I cried a little when I saw it posted however. Just a friendly suggestion but I would really think twice about posting any urushi pens. Congrats by the way. I would love to have that pen

That and after you get used to filling a bulb-filler, you can start to feel when it's getting full.

I have to say I winced just a little, as well, but then I never post any pen. What a looker you have there and as others have said I'm looking forward to the full review, with a writing sample. Being a full time writer, that should be no problem, right?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
