How it works...

Insert the papers (max 5 sheets only)

There is a window to give you a view of how it punches and whether any residue paper is trapped in there.

Depress the lever handle

Remove and this is the end result.

The punch leaves a punch-out shape in the form of an arrow

What it does is fold that punched-out arrow back on itself and UNDERNEATH ...

You can punch as many as you like and in whatever pattern

It can only punch 5 sheets of paper

but its adequate to hold it together for light use.

One advantage is that you can run it thru a shredder without having any staples in the way.

I have a this product from Deal Extreme. It's cut outs aren't as decorative but, functionally, it works the same. Putting two punches per set of papers improves the holding strength by reducing the sheets' twisting.

That is the same one I just received as gift from my daughter but in black. I have been using it in the office with good results.

This reminds me of the various origami tricks my students try when they forget to staple their papers. The origami tricks generally fail. How does the stapleless staple hold up when shuffling through the papers? The shredder advantage is cool, but the administration frowns on shredding student papers instead of grading them. (Although I have seen some that could be improved by the shredder...)

My mom had a unit like this that was from around 1900. It was all metal with a heavy base. Needless to say I crew up using that instead of staples. It is nice to see a modern take on it.

I have something similar made by Paperlok. Works on the same principle and works very well. At work, we had to keep pages together as they went through a review process. Most of the time, revisions required the pages to be separated and then reattached. I stumbled upon this little marvel and was the envy of the outfit until most everyone got their own. They work well.
