Great now I have to get a bottle of this ink. :glare:

Luckily it's available at my local bookstore!

Great review Sandy! :)

Hi,

Thanks!

Great that your local shop stocks this ink.

I just got this ink during a snow storm in NYC. It's appropriately warm, strikes a subtle balance between green and red, being neither olive nor rust red, with a hint of astringency. And because it's somewhat dry (like the vintage Montblanc Blue-Black), it is a perfect ink for a Pelikan! :)

I know I'm the odd one out here, but I think this ink ordinary. I bought it because I'd read so many great reviews. I don't hate it, it's just, well, meh.

Maybe you either like J. Herbin inks or you don't and I fall into the latter category. (Although I do love all of the 1670 series, Perle Noir & Vert Empire).

Hi,

Many thanks for sharing your opinion. :)

In the Review I mentioned, "I was aghast at the 'not for me' appearance from the Phileas." So it might take a bit of effort to find the handle on this ink.

It seems to me that Brown inks are a bit tricky to sort through and find the one/s that are most appealing.

For the most part, I favour the quite boring Dark Browns, (such as R&K Sepia, Pilot yama-guri and Diamine Macassar), but when I have the time and patience to match this malleable ink to a pen+paper combo, I do like the warm character and shading potential. To me HLdT is not a daily writer ink, nor is it a 'default' Brown.

As ever, we are spoiled by choice of having many fine inks from which to choose. Enjoy!

Bye,

S1

This is definitely my go to brown ink, because so far it is the nicest combination of darkness and warmth among the various browns I have. Also, I love tea, so there.

Okay, I used to have the Letter Writers Alliance and The Snail Mail Exchange in here. Somehow, my browsers settings and the forum's settings work together to prevent that from being the case at the moment. Whenever I try to update my signature, the whole process breakls down. So. Whatever.

I like Yama-Guri as well and I love the rich dark brown of Diamine Chocolate Brown.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
