Twsbi Micarta

So far, I'm liking everything about this pen, from the look of it to the stiff nib to the sparse packaging. It's just... that darn Nakaya Shield. As long as I'm using my Nakayas, I'm wondering why would I want to buy another pen? I've got my eye on this one, though. Just keep lookin'.... *Sigh*

I don't have as many Nakayas as you (who does???), but other than that I am in the same boat. This pen has my attention! I nearly clicked on the Order button a couple of times already, and it's getting harder and harder to resist. :)

I'm sure there are plenty here who have as many or more Nakayas as I.

As for the Micarta -- I finally held one in my hands yesterday (Sketchy brought his to Pen Posse), and I was very taken with the colors and texture and tactility of the pen (clipless), and I wanted to order one immediately! But I didn't. And now it's today, and I still haven't ordered one. But I like it so much.... Weird, hey? I really, really like the look of the pen, but I haven't bought one. Maybe because I just bought another P&S camera (that I hope combines the features that I like about the two P&S cameras I have, so I can sell the two P&S cameras and have just the one that will do everything I want in an P&S). Yeah, probably that's why.

Two things:

Sure, sure. rolleyes.gif That is what I always tell myself about my cameras! ;) :P

Not to rain on your parade, but that will never happen. I have been buying cameras for decades, looking for the perfect one. There is no solution to this... other than buying a Micarta AND a new camera! eureka.gif

People mi Micarta finally arrived and it is a BEAUTIFUL pen. Love the color, the texture, the size the shape, everything.

Having it in my hands make me very happy because I wanted one since the first teasers appeared from speedy.

Thankyou TWSBI for making this pen.

Also love the weight, it is heavier that I was expecting and that is a pleasant surprise, I prefer light pens but this one is just in the sweet spot.

i also just got a micarta in trade for one of the earliest (first 300) twsbi 530s, and am loving it. i've always liked that "homemade" look, and the non-metal, non-plastic aesthetic, for a change. the M/F nib was scratchy and bone-dry when i got it (and stiff! the 530/540 nibs were much softer), but an hour's tweaking got it to flow and write wet and smooth, the way i like it. the cap and barrel are so differently colored that they look like a mismatch, but i rather like it--makes my pen seem even more unique.

Now that people have had their TWSBI Micartas for a bit, any new comments?

Thanks,

I still use mine a lot. The pen has darkened a bit through use. The threads a material has "smoothened" out and has a great feel to it. My medium was quite dry but through some tweaking and use now writes a very wet medium. One of my favorite pens, I only wish it had come in a stub and I had not gotten a clip on mine. I like the look of the clipless version.

Change is not mandatory, Survival is not required.

My experience with the pen is similar to ravantra's, a slight darkening of the barrel, nicely smooth threads, and still very much enjoying this pen. My pen has a steel B nib that I had stubbed and it writes a very smooth and wet line with excellent line variation. I never fear going anywhere with the Micarta as it is so tough.

The length is shorter but the nib is bigger? Interesting move...

Mmm, yeah. Tends to shift the overalle aestethic experience. I'm having one in the mail, M nib. Look forward to seeing it IRL.

Okay, this picture might have just sold me on this pen. Now to find the money....

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
