That is one of the most gratifying photographs I think I have ever seen.

Brian, "Thank you"...for all of it.

Over in the Nouveau Encore thread, somebody just had to go mentioning a Badger and Blade LE!?!?!

If anybody missed the group buy here and wants a pretty amazing pen, look over there. I just don't think I have the $175 or to put it a better way I'd probably be deciding between it and things like the TWSBI 700 and the Raleigh Pen Show. Oh decisions, decisions.

It's a Herald Grande in an ebonite for $175. I know. Drool.

Wow. That's a nice pen. Blue/black Herald Grande. Tempting.

Thanks. I didn't know what a "Badger and Blade" even was, let alone that it was a website.

badgerandblade.com

It is a shaving forum which refers to badger hair brushes for applying shaving cream and the razor blade or straight razor used to shave. Pretty cool place to hang out when not on FPN.

On Monday, will do nib inspections and get everything packed up!

Barring something unforeseen, you should all have your pens next week!

Did you end up making any extras? Or just exactly what was pre-ordered?

Brian,

When doing this sort of thing, how do you assign nibs to these pens? I assume since you're doing nib checks you do it before shipment and it isn't done at Goulet. Assuming for a hypothetical LE you're doing 40 pens, is it 1 through 8 are XF, 9 through 20 are F, 21 through 33 are M, and 34 through 40 are B? Is it much less orderly than that?

If it is done in an orderly fashion and you have the breakdown, I'd sure love to see it. You know how those of us in the community love to obsess. ;) If for some reason you really don't want to share things like that, I understand. I just figure it never hurts to ask.

They are numbered exactly as you stated. The low numbered pens are XF's, and the higher numbered pens are B's.

I don't have the spreadsheet with me, and I won't be back in the shop until Monday, so I don't have the breakdown now.

I'll still have plenty of time for obsessing from Monday until delivery if you think about posting it then. :)

I know you're a busy guy if you forget about it. No worries. You knocked this out. You have a fantastic new production pen. I think you have some pen show coming up (Chicago?), plus there is that B&B group buy on the horizon.

ETA: Now that the "secret" about how the LE numbering goes is out, I wonder if there will suddenly be twice as many XF orders proportionally due to people trying for a low number.

Ok I will be the one... anyone for some fun? If the numbering system is such can you try and guess what your number will be? Closest wins!! Maybe we can come up with a prize...ink sample etc. Honor system at work.

There are 79 ebonite and 40 cobalt

I went with a Ebonite M so I will go with #42 wink wink Brian!!!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
