Huh??

Whaaaaa????

I received this battered old Duofold today and, whilst the nib is in good shape, it doesn't have a button or a sac in it. Furthermore, the section won't unscrew from the body... What to do...

I soaked it and tugged at the feed and nib until it finally came free!! YES! But then I had a nib and feed that was matched up to a basically unusable pen... A new home was in order. The nib was too small for my Bexley 802, and my Ahab, and a few other pens I tried. Then my normal sized flex pen came out. I yanked the feed and nib from it, and tried putting the duofold feed inside... No dice!

So I just pushed the noodlers feed and the Duofold stub nib in the flex pen. "Surely this won't work, or seal very well" I thought. I filled it with the safest ink I own, Lamy Blue, and BAM it wrote! Scratchy, but with some tine tinkering it was smooth! Flushed the Lamy and filled with Diamine Meadow (an ink I have been busting to use), and voila! A piston filling, demonstrator Duofold, 14k gold oblique broad (double broad?) nib. Surprisingly, the nib JUST fits in the cap! It's as if the two pens are close cousins.

It's smooth, and the flow is absolutely perfect!

Then... Well... The clip was too silver to match gold of the nib:

It will also work very nicely with a #2 Moore nib and had very nice flex and flow.

I'm just surprised that a 50 year old nib and clip fit so well on a modern pen that is much smaller than the pen they came from.

Save the Duofold parts though, you might just find replacement parts and be able to repair the original pen. Until then enjoy the nib, it looks sweet!

It's surprisingly smooth and well preserved for its age! And don't worry, all the spare parts are being archived for a future possible restoration project :)
