Starwalker Nib And Clip Don't Line Up

Recommended Posts

Ive recently gotten my first montblanc Starwalker and popped a cartridge on and screwed on the clip and the clip doesn't line up with the nib, thus making it feel a bit unbalanced. Is this normal? Is there a way to adjust this, or should I send it off to montblanc?

Thanks for your help here!

could you please post pictures of the pen? so we can see what the problem actually looks like.

Yes. My apology.

The problem is that the cap screws on to the top to be posted. When it screws on, the clip doesn't line up with the nib...instead it is off to the side. Here are a few pictures that will hopefully show what I am trying to put into words.

this seems very odd. may i ask where you purchased it from? from an authorised dealer, forum or ebay? from looking at the nib, the pen looks genuine. It could be a faulty thread or if you brought it from ebay, the cap of the pen could be a replica. is the serial number engraved onto the side of the clip itself or is it engraved off the clip?

The position of the clip is quite a headache because I can see it's kind of against your thumb. I do not own any starwalker, so I do not know whether it is normal. You may want to contact the manufacturer and I guess they should be willing to help.

Bad news. That situation maybe you can not rapair by yourself. I had the same problem with my Starwalker. The best you can do is to send your pen to Montblanc Service.

Please excuse my poor english, but it is not my mothern language and maybe it is wrong my grammar. Any Suggestions are welcome.

I have the same problem, the only thing I did was loosen the nib to match the cap, the nib is to not difficult to unscrew.

And my nib is scratchy , for a starwalker what a pity.

I believe it is a simple matter for the boutique to reposition the cap correctly, they have a special tool for that.

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

I imagine that is the case, but on the other hand why would it have been let out of the factory like that originally though?

Send it to the MB repair center and tell them to align the clip. That should be free since it takes 2 seconds to do that!

  • 4 years later...

I have recently contacted a boutique about a Boheme that has a similar problem. They have to go back to Montblanc. Boutiques can't fix them. :(

Bohemes used to have a threaded screw inside the cap that could be loosened and tightened, but now they are different. I've never seen inside a Starwalker cap so I don't know what's in there.

I have the same "problem" with my SW Ultimate Carbon.

Since I don't post my pens I can live with that, but it should not happen.

Nib rotates but the ink drying up over time makes it impossible to move without the right tools. I took mine actually about 6 months ago to the service center and they did it for me on the spot.

Well it's quite possible they might still be able to fix Starwalkers. :)

However, they can't loosen the cap top and clip of the Boheme because that needs a Head Office specialised tool with some sort of spikes all over it to fit in the indented holder inside the cap :(

I have a SW from 2007. Had the same problem. Some kind soul here at the FPN posted that all you need to do is grasp the nib

with two fingers and rotate it to he desired position. I just got mine out and did it to be sure.

I have a dozen StarWalkers. Easy fix. As stated above, gently hold the nib and feed and give it a slight turn to align it. Simple and easy. I have done it with 4 of mine. No need to send to MB.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
