I'm using an old Barol Mirado Black Warrior 372 that I found in a supply closet at work several years ago and have been slowing using up. The glossy black paint is way nicer than the black matte on the Paper Mate Mirado Black Warrior currently being made and the lead feels more consistent. The wood is very soft, so I've been using a pocket knife to sharpen it since it was "new". I figure that by hand sharpening and putting a chisel tip on it, it'll last longer. The lead is a bit harder than typical HB, so I expect to be using this pencil for years go come.

These things seem to go for $3 - $4 per pencil on Ebay and they look really sharp, so I imagine there are collectors who snap them up. But as someone who uses my pencils, I'm not likely to purchase more because there are better pencils in production for half the price.

I extend the lead, sharpen it, and push it back in with my fingers whilst depressing the button.

That's almost the only way indeed...

Thanks!

It appears that with that lead sharpener you can extend the lead the bare minimum required to sharpen it and wouldn't be necessary to retract the lead again...

Musgrave Harvest 320 Professional #2, a nice basic classic yellow #2 pencil, I kept thinking to myself, the eraser on this pencil is far better than on my Blackwing Natural (which has their green eraser, and not the original gray one). The only downside is the paint comes off this pencil fairly easily just pocket wearing it.....

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

I just received a burgundy colored Mitsubishi / Uni lead holder in the mail! It's got a matching pointer as well.

It's a nice, elegant, writing instrument that I'll be using for the foreseeable future 😎

The Uni MH500 is an amazing lead holder. The lightweight body combined with the knurled metal grip section makes it the most nimble feeling lead holder that I can think of. I hope you love it!

The Derwent Precision (0.7mm) has become my go to mechanical pencil, and the only one I use despite having three other makes within easy reach.

My goto pencil today was an Alvin MC5 2mm lead holder with mystery lead in it (probably from a Staedtler Norica, but I'm not certain).

I've got some Pentel Ain Stein 0.5 in 4B. I really like it 😎

I only use Pentel Ain Stein and Uni Nano Dia. :)

No issues with either, although Pentel Super Hi-Polymer would suffice too.

Pentel Black Polymer 999 - B grade. Am down to my last three now.

Mitsubishi 2667 red and blue for correcting and annotating.

Both are great pencils.

Berol Turquoise, 2H lead. I had it out a couple of days ago when I was trying to sketch up some designs for the "marchpanes" (baked marzipan panels which will then be decorated) for the reception at the event I'm going to this weekend). Then was trying to trying to copy the modern recipe for it and for the wafers (think giant pizzelles) for the base but the 2H lead was just too light on the scrap paper I was using -- I'm going to have to go grab a pen instead....

Prismacolor Turquoise lead holder filled with Staedtler 2B lead...

I will need hand cream for my holding fingers after using it, the knurled grip is a tough cookie!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China. With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters. Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed. And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments.. I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
