Much to my surprise, I found that one of the few stationery stores remaining in Stockholm (Sudd & Kludd in Kungsgatan) had UNI 2 mm lead holders, so I had to buy one. That’s what I’ve been using the last few days (with the included HB lead, which I find a bit softer than the Staedtler HB:s I’m used to).

Yesterday it was a cheapie #2 style pencil (I think the brand is "Oriental Trading Company") that the director of the amateur madrigal choir gave out to all the members a couple of years ago.  I keep it in the current 3 ring binder used for performances (it's the kind where there's an outside sleeve where you can slide pages in so you know what it's for: the front has the name of the choir; the back has images of the various "awards" we've gotten over the years; and the spine has my SCA name).  There's a little pocket in the interior of the spine that the pencil lives in, for when we're getting notes on how words are pronounced -- we're singing stuff in various languages -- and also for marking what parts are loud or soft and if those changes are abrupt or not.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Scrikks mechanical pencil - quite heavy in hand, contrasting with a big brother Ranga bamboo fountain pen which even when inked is lighter than the pencil  :) :)

I just took this photo for another reason (black & red), but today my Rotring Rapid Pro 2.0 is in my pen case.

Even though I prefer black pencils (or at least very darkly colored), that looks very nice.

(I have two Rapid Pros, but both black)

The black does look really nice! Well, maybe something for another time. The 0.5 mm pencil I usually use currently is a Pentel Sharp Kerry, but I can already tell this one is going to take over that spot. The Kerry is great, but I’ve always wished it were a bit longer. This one has a perfect length and weight.

Got to put my new Lamy 2000 0.7 to work on some sketches today.  I have a few L2K fountain pens I love so I added the pencil to my last ink order.  Love it.

In my case none.  Instead of doing anything useful or even requiring a writing instrument, I fronted up for an appointment that no one bothered to tell me was postponed until next month, went for a drive, did some reading in the shade of a tree, and then went to a club fly tying session where I tied (very poorly) a dry fly that was/is reminiscent of this guy:  Famous Cartoon Cats

Said fly is still in the car or I'd put up for a comparison.

A 5.6mm clutch pencil, it is as likeable as it is huge. Sometimes it is like trying to write with the trunk of an elephant.

The Lamy 2000 is such a nice feeling pencil! Mine is also 0.7, and I use it mostly for drawing

Thanks for the info (I only used B&W film and learned to process that).   Boy -- the stuff I learn here!  Just continually astounded at the depth and breadth of knowledge in this community! Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

      >Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color,<   I'm sure they were, and my answer assumes that. It just wasn't likely to have been Kodachrome.  It would have been the films I referred to as "other color films." (Kodachrome is not a generic term for color film. It is a specific film that produces transparencies, or slides, by a process not used for any other film. There are other color trans

@Ceilidh -- Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color, not just B&W like I learned to process.  Whether they were doing the processing of the film themselves in one of the darkrooms, or sending their stuff out to be processed commercially?  That I don't actually know, but had always assumed that they were processing their own film. Kodachrome 25 was the most accurate film for clinical photography and was used by dermatologists everywhere. I got magnificent results with a Nikon F2 and a MicroNikkor 60 mm lens, using a manually calibrated small flash on a bracket. I wish there were a filter called "Kodachrome 25 color balance" on my iPhone camera.
