Amazing! Looks like so much fun! Thank you for taking the time to post all of those pics and for giving us all a little bit of the experience.

Great seeing you again Skip.

My purchases are documented in this thread in the Writing Instruments forum.

The Steampunk pens are sold by Roger Cromwell. I have three pics of the steampunk pens in the report.

Ricky, I've been to the show for two days the last two years and I feel like Tom both years. How the heck did I miss that?! I think there's just so much pen it overloads the synapses. Good fun to see it from a different perspective.

... I want to point out that our lovely Jon Szanto has one of the coolest stories ever: He played drums one night with Pearl Jam.

I told my son a little about Jon, and this story. He was duly impressed. I left out the part with the bow tie... ;)

Smart move. I mean, it isn't like there aren't enough dorks in the world already... :roflmho:

It's what you wear but how you wear it.

Jon looked quite dapper at the show unlike Loren and myself.

Dang! If dorks can play drums with Pearl Jam, then I want to be a (bleep)!

I mean, I want to be a (bleep) who can play drums with Pearl Jam. Oh shush!

Thank you so much, Ricky, for the photos! They really convey what the show is like, at least as I remember Friday and Saturday - yeah, including the great dinner get-together that Joi arranged.

Lisa, I am so sorry that I didn't put your face together with your FPN name. We met, shook, said "Hi, I'm Barbara", "I'm Lisa" and I didn't know I was talking to Ethernautrix, of the fabulous pen collection I've ooohed over here.

For others, and I'm sure there are others, who I didn't recognize, mea culpa. This was only my 2nd LA Pen Show, and I beg for continuing slack as a relative newbie.

You experienced folk are so kind and helpful to newbies, and I loved every minute!

What a delightful read! I really hope I can go someday. In the meantime thanks to your excellent accounting, I can appreciate it vicariously.

Ah, you've done it again, Ricky: re-created the L.A. Pen Show experience for those of us who couldn't be there. Your photos are always so appreciated. I *really* missed being there this year.

Thanks so much for the show report---outstanding job! :clap1:

Nice to see so many familiar faces (maybe next year mine will be one of them, LOL! )

and so many nice writing instruments. That huge pocket knife reminds me of the one they had on Storage Wars-Texas a few weeks ago: http://www.squidoo.com/largest-swiss-army-knife :o

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
