so the metal within the barrel affects the celluloid? and it cracks the barrel with force?

would storing them separated help?

No, the metal within the barrel and the metal on the section are in contact, and corrode - making it difficult to remove the section from the barrel. Besides, what I said was that the metal helps the barrel to resist cracking while you are struggling to remove the section.

This thread is drifting into a repair issues encountered in Deco Bands, but of course the Senior size Side clip Gold Seal and Soldier Clip pens of the same era had aluminum barrel liners and section sleeves, too. Perhaps this thread end should be moved to a new one. If it gets much longer and stays on the repair and restoration point, I will move those type posts to a new topic for ease of viewing and because most folks would not know that such a discussion was under way by the title of the current thread.

A safe pen friendly penetrant helps to get these parts apart. I always shy away from any self promotion on the forum, but if you want to see a nice array of deco bands and perhaps see about a trustworthy section penetrant/releasing aid you can visit: The Pensbury Manor website. PM

It does appear that the last six responses have concerned Deco Band repair. That was certainly not my intention, but discussions tend to wander. In any case, I have probably exhausted my expertise in this area, so I doubt that I will be continuing the discussion in this direction. However, if you want to transfer part of this thread to a repair thread, please feel free to do so.

Beautiful collection! I just love these pens. I have 2 of them now -the Black and Pearl and the Rosewood. Am trying to build a collection of them.

O dear... : just got hit by new desires...

I never thought I'd like flat topped pens and now it turns out I do!

outstanding collections guys

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
