Pay It Forward 2012

in the flow

Recommended Posts

Perhaps appropriate for Halloween, I received exactly 13 entrants for the PIF of the gold-plated steel Pelikan OM italic and M italic nibs. I got 7 entrants from the US, 4 entrants from Canada, and 2 entrants from Asia. I used www.random.org to randomly pick the winner.

The winner is Cyber6, from Canada. :clap1:

I'll send the package once I get Cyber6's mailing address.

Thanks to everyone for playing.

Will J.

I would like this to go to a relative FP newbie so please don't apply if you've already requested one of my PIFs before.

I will send Worldwide and will pick the "winner" next week.

Thanks for looking!!

Hi

I'd be interested, as my post in the new member section I'm a returning fountain pen user looking for pens to do my university course with.

OK, another one. Got some additional inks from stylos.se in my last order that I know I'll probably not use... will be given to (one of) the first who PM me with the word "PIF INK" in the subject line.

Please remember that this is "Pay it forward", so the recipient is somehow expected to do something nice to someone else. I would appreciate if the recipient would donate money at least corresponding to postage costs to some sort of charity like the Red Cross or other Hurricane Sandy relief. No requirement though, it's your choice.

Oh well, here's the pic: short international cartridges of Diamine inks:

Has the pen been paid forward yet? I recall PM'ing you about the pen, but I haven't heard back since, so I'm still curious... regardless, great-looking pen!

The pen has not been "awarded" yet.

It's such a beautiful pen. I would love to know which lucky person gets the pleasure of writing with it. That nib reminds me of a Parker Sonnet nib.

I've got a 1930s Sheaffer Balance to give away. The pen does need to be restored (the filling mechanism no longer works), but it's in good condition otherwise, though it's a very small pen (only 10cm/4 inches long when capped). I would like for the pen to go to someone who intends to restore it for personal use. The pen looks very similar to

(taken from http://www.rickconner.net/penspotters/sheaffer.balance.html), though without the white dot on the cap.

I also have a small bottle of shellac to give away, as well as a ink sac of 7mm or 1/4 inch diameter.

I'm willing to post anywhere, though I may use surface mail, depending on the cost. I'll choose someone around 48 hours from now, so 19:10 GMT on 13 November, give or take. :)

Yay! Very pleased. I'm looking for something I can offer in return, but I'm not quite sure what yet!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
