My M1000 Black trim (EF nib) had the similar issues with the nib. My pen has been shipped to Pelikan for the nib exchange more than 3 weeks ago. I hope I will get back my pen in the perfect condition as I expect it to be from the beginning at this price range.

It seems this misaligned tines are happening more often. I started questioning Pelikan's production process and the quality control.

My collection: 149 EF/F/B/OBB, Collodi B/Twain F/Mann F, 146 M, Silver Barley F, M1000/M800 B'o'B/M800 Tortoise/Sahara/415 BT/215/205 Blue Demo, Optima Demo Red M/88 EF & Italic/Europa, Emotica, 2K/Safaris/Al-Stars/Vista, Edson DB/Carene BS, Pilot 845/823/742/743/Silvern/M90/Makies, Sailor Profit Realo M/KOP Makies/Profit Makies/Profit 21 Naginata MF&M/KOP/KOP Mosaiques/Sterling Silvers,Platinum #3776 Celluloids/Izumos/Wood pens/Sterling Silvers,YoL Grand Victorian, and more (I lost counting)

My dream is to own a M900 and also a M910. Together with the Montblanc solitaires and you have the most stunning pens ever made - as well as an empty bank account!

With as many complaints as I see on FPN about Pelikan nibs, it's amazing to me that the company doesn't bump up their QA. I realize that the nibs are factory produced but so are Franklin Christoph and you can't beat their nibs. All it takes is a stringent QA program.

Excellent review. Great photos!

I have 6 Pelikans ; most were purchased new but 2 were pre-owned. I only had one bad nib. Pelikan USA were more than happy to exchange it free of charge. Pelikan have great customer service.

I think of my FPs as my children.

I've just got a very nice present from my dad, a Pelican Toledo M900 with M nib. He has a whole collection of fountain pens (Pelican, Montblanc, Parker and Faber Castell) and he wanted me to have this one. I'm very happy with it!

What can I do best for cleaning the pen? It wasn't used for a long time, so cleaning is necessary i guess? I've ordered some ink, Pelican Edelstein Saffier. What is your opinion about this ink? Or should I choose the Pelican Fount India?

Sorry, it's an early M700 :)

You have a nice dad! You should be proud.

I find that my Pelikans write best with Montblanc ink. I would NEVER use Fount India or any other ink that contains pigment, or dries insoluble. If you want a very deep black, Aurora Black is an option.

Very nice review of my favorite Pelikan. Mine is in daily use since 1986.

Interesting how the newest M900 booklet is from the 910 series...silver printing and 910 panel artwork.

I also realized when writing with this pen, I could use the weight of the pen to let the nib glide onto the surface of the paper via gravity alone to give a continuous line without me needing to exert much forces (using tripod grip). Other pens could also do this but is not as effective (with occasional skipping). With the effortless writing style this pen could offer, I find it is very relaxing and not tiring at all even after many pages of writing.

Thanks for the very informative review. Interesting point about the weight.

I really love everything about the Pelikans except the lightweight plastic construction. The lacquer over brass Dupont and Caran d'Ache feel much better in hand ( to me YMMV ). The added balanced weight sets the pen into the hand and the nib onto the paper.

VERY NICE review of a gorgeous pen !! They certainly have brought this pen "upscale" all around than the 1947 Toledo that I have, though the gold sleeve on mine is solid gold engraved with the same Pelikan motif as the new one has. The older models at that time were all based on the 100 series and were all the same size. Here's a small pic I have of the older model :

Sorta the same but different at the same time.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
