As the son of an Argentine, it would be interesting to know when the South American onus shifted from Argentina to Brazil re both manufacturing and market.

I know that Parker had a factory in Argentina in the 1950s; anyone else?

Too many pens; too little writing.

Parker had BOTH factories (Brazil and Argentina) simultaneously.

Sheaffer too... The south american Sheaffer operation was called ILASA.

It's interesting that Argentina has been mentioned in this thread because László József Bíró (the inventor of the modern Biro pen) set up a company in Argentina to mass-produce his patented ballpoint pens many decades ago. Something must have encouraged him to go to that country and manufacture his pens.

Argentina had a golden period from 1930 to 1960. Several foreign companies established operations in Argentina because its money health. They falled after 1960 after several dictator military governments. In 1982, they declared war against Great Britain by the Falkland Islands. After that, they never succeed to raise up again...

I can accept your statement if you prefix it with "I think that".

Compactor was founded by Buschle in Wuppertal/ Germany

Kind Regards

Thomas

Exactly, but the Buschle family emigrates to Brazil in 1953. Today they don't make fountain pens. They are comercial partners of the german brand Schneider.

Compactor Solo is the name of the Schneider model they sell. Look at http://www.compactor.com.br/produto_detalhe/solo

Just received in the post a Pilot 77 marked IND. BRASELEIRA. The tip of the lever on the filler actuator is broken off so it looks like it's going to be a bulb filler when I've replaced the sac, but I think it's going to be a nice pen to use.

Very nice models Eduardo.

Tell me, is it possible to know, more or less, the price of the Sheaffer Imperial 500, in Brasil?

I bought on an auction site here... A set, composed by FP and BP. I paid R$ 100.00 (brazilian real), approx US$ 40.00...
