Parker Ingenuity

I got an email from Colorado Pen alluding to a new Parker pen unveiling October 1, 2011. It is called the Parker Ingenuity and they call it fifth generation writing.

Just like the unveiling of hte SR-71 Blackbird 's progenor, the A-12 in September 1964.

Any idea of what it looks like? Any secret pictures of its design floating around?

the Parker Ductus?

(judging by the nib)

It does remind you of the Ductus. I hope it's a bit less costly.

It's a nice looking pen, has an upbeat look, contemporary styling. Even if it looks like the Ductus, it's more Parker and prettier. With the nib and section the same color it looks nice and purposeful.

I spoke to a guy today about it at the Fountain Pen Hospital. Its basically a rollerball that uses fountain pen cartridges or converters. The nib is not a real nib, but a roller nib that is designed to look like a fountain pen nib. There are tines, feed, etc. to worry about. It is simply an effort to compete with the eco rollers and such.

I took a close look -- googled Parker Ingenuity -- and it does not look like a roller-ball tip. Has that long thin tip running down the center of the grip. Close-in, it looks like the last-generation Sanford Expresso, dressed up. The tip looks like the old Expresso fiber-tip, fine or extra-fine. That would fit with the advertising claim that the tip molds to fit your writing. (Just as the fiber tip would wear down some.)

Colorado Pens price will be about $160, so it's about a third the price of the Duofold.

Wow...guess we knew it would be expensive. If one can replace the tips great. It sounds like something that

will wear down though. Really all i needed for them to make their gel refills a permanent ink.

I recently exchanged email with an Itoya reseller and Itoya; they have discontinued their blue

gel refill (GPR-7 BU). They still make the black and I guess if one wanted to write in purple

they make that. Too bad as I had been wanting to try it.

Getting back on topic; tip of this pen looks to be a needle point of some sort; comes with the refill.

It is interesting in that they shaped it like a fountain pen; if it shaped like a fountain pen why not

get a fountain pen and not be locked into a single refill and ink type?

  • 2 weeks later...

Not impressed. Another eco-roller thingy. I have too many drop-dead-gorgeous pens from the 1920s to be bothered with something like this.

I have a LOT of trouble with the notion of spending that much on a pen that you throw out the actual business end of.

You and I, both. Actually I also have that problem with ordinary ballpoint pens.

Specs about the refill from the colorado pen site.. I'd be curious as to how water resistant the

blue refill is.

* Weight - 5 g

* Tip - Polypropylene

* Tube - Nickel-plated brass

* Writing length - 500 meters

It sure looks like a fountain pen. Seems like a real good idea for lefties too. While it's no fountain pen I'll bet most fp fanatics would rather carry it than a bp or a rollerball. I'm sure Parker is hoping for that too.

When I go to work I have a Parker 51 pen and pencil set plus my old trusty Sheaffer Stratowriter or first year Jotter. I would rather carry a vintaged BP than this.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
