Congratulations on having a hand in forging a magnificent pen! It's magical. Great work Brian and Ernest. I'm very drawn to the urushi style for its simplicity and elegance. I want to make a request as you did, but feel my request would be too vague and not technical enough for them, Brian and ernest, to have something to go on. Well, I admire your vision.

Cheers!

Even if you have just a vague idea of what you want, feel free to ask us and begin a custom order. Before needing to have any commitment, I will work with you to find the technique, design and price range that suits you best. Strang's pen here actually started out only as a few vague ideas and preferences in shapes, colors and techniques. I worked with him in thoroughly designing the urushi motif and Brian worked with him to chose the modifications to the pen itself.

Don't worry about being too vague as we can always give you suggestions and ideas to steer you in ways that you may not have imagined or to obtain more concrete ideas.

I have a couple of ideas ready to go - I already emailed you about one, and then I had another idea as I was reading about Strang's beauty here. I'll probably email you about the second one soon! Your work is awesome, Ernest! :)

Currently using:Too many pens inked to list, I must cut back! :) I can guarantee there are flighters, urushi, and/or Sheaffer Vac-fillers in the mix!!!

Just want to chime in from my own personal experience with my gorgeous Hakumin Mina: Ernest is VERY GOOD at getting you to the design you want. Don't be afraid, jump in and start the conversation.

P.S. I continue to admire this pen of Strang's. Such a great design.

WOW. What a stunner! I'd be afraid of ruining the finish if I were to have one. Congrats!

Absolutely right! I think, when I first contacted Ernest, all I had was the kanji and a very vague idea about the raden pieces. Ernest talked me through the whole process, with nice input from Brian at Edison. It was a pleasure working with these gentlemen.

Bless you for being inspired by God to create such magnificence. I cannot wait to get in touch one day and say ok, this is my dream, please help me bring it to life.

Strang, that is just the most incredible pen. Be blessed and please share a poem written in that incredible colour!

If there is righteousness in the heart, There will be beauty in character. If there is beauty in character, There will be harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, There will be order in the nation. When there is order in the nation, There will be peace in the world. Bhagawan Shri Satya Sai Baba

Well, okay, my photograph didn't turn out too well and doesn't really do it justice but...you asked for it!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
