The Meisterstuck Bordeaux Fp Family

Thank you all for your kind comments. I did not actively plan/act to build this collection. The 144 and 145 came from a kind FPN member in trade. I already had the good fortune of buying the 146 and 147 from ebay at good prices. So when I saw a new Mozart R being sold, I put in a higher than normal bid and won to complete the FP set.

The bordeaux pens, I think plenty were made so they are certainly not unique pens and not even very uncommmon since they are listed fairly regularly on ebay. I wish MB made a dark grey meisterstuck.

I didn't buy a mb bordeaux 146 because it didn't exist with a monotone yellow gold nib.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Hari, one more request. Would it be possible to see a pic of the 114 posted with the others unposted?

The Burgundy & Bordeaux are the same colour yes? But the pens shown are so different in shades dont you think ?

Only the 114 is slightly lighter in shade among my pens. But that maybe because the 114 barrel is lacquered brass, not resin.

I have recently bought the 145, but at the time of buying i was torn between the 145, Mozart and the Classique. Luckily i opted for the Chopin as it is much longer in comparison! Beautiful collection you have there!

Does anyone know how the Traveller compares to the 149?

Chris, the Traveller and the 146 are nearly identical in size. Hence, the traveller is much smaller than the 146 149 in girth and slightly smaller in length.

Beautiful pens!

I'm a big fan of the Meisterstuck in bordeaux as well. I have a 164 ballpoint in that color that I love to use.

Despite what many sellers say they aren't particularly rare or hard-to-find. They were made through the 1980s until 2001 in large quantities. They do seem to fetch a small premium over the black examples though and seem to be a little more sought after.

Earlier in the year I stopped into my local MB boutique at the Mall at Short Hills and saw the sales associate at the register using what appeared to be an 164R FP. I asked her how she got it and she told me she bought it years ago when she first started working for MB and that unfortunately they no longer make it if I was interested in buying one.

I have just purchased a MB 145R-Chopin and I am really happy with it: in my current rotation I am using it with Oyster Grey MB ink, a nice contrast.

Does someone know when was this burgundy finish introduced for the 145 model? It seems that it was discontinued in 2001.

Thanks Hari. Have you tried any J. Herbin cartridges in it?

I use J Herbin ink cartridges in mine - J Herbin Bleu Pervenche in Spring and Summer and J Herbin Larmes de Cassis in Autumn and Winter - the MB handles both colours beautifully.

So insanely jealous right now. I didn't know they made a bordeaux Chopin :puddle: . I cannot understand why Montblanc stopped making bordeaux Meisterstucks. I'm always on the hunt for a 144R...and now a 145R :headsmack:

HA! I finally got them all. The 50's 142, the Mozart 114, the 144 classique, the 145 Chopin, the 146 Le Grand, the 147 Traveller and my old and trusted 149 in OB. All in black and gold, except the Chopin which has platinum trim. I am now going for a Chopin in gold trim to have a nice uniform set, and make a nice gift for some friend worth it of the platinum one (or, on afterthought, keep it and house it with the rest of my 30 odd Montblancs from the 50's onward).

Do you have a picture of all of your MBs together?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
