thanks for the tip. worked like a charm. :D

It's a beautiful avatar, chris! However, there's a bit of a snag. It loads just a tad of slower than it might otherwise, most likely because it's bigger than the size of a regular avatar. Needs to be about 100 x 100. I've scaled it down for you, if you aren't sure how to do that, I can email what I came up with you. Naturally, it's not a crisp a picture at that small size though. But if you'd like to check it out, I'll be happy to send it on.

Hi Chris and welcome to the FPN.

I have yet to put up an avatar for myself. it will probably be the same one I used on RS.

Another part of making them more interface-friendly isn't just the physical size but using compression. If you have Photoshop (or other s/w) that will "Save for the Web" you can get a good clean pic that is small enough but still smooth enough to be appealing and yet load quickly. PS does this especially well, IMO but I'm sure most decent graphics programs have a similar capability.

Seems like living in Las Vegas would teach you about addictions... but you just substituted with pens, right? :-)

yup. this entire town is based upon addictions and bad math. they don't build casinos that cost two billion dollars because people *win*.

the outdoor activities are what brought me here, originally. lots of mountains and sunshine. :D

Guest Denis Richard

Welcome all new members ! No, it's not a new Denis... it's an artifact of our move to the new server... Denis has been at one time "Admin", "DRichard1", and now "Denis"... If I find some time to fix that, I'll do it... but it's no big deal... so, Denis is me, but that account will remain inactive I think.

Hi Gang,

I thought I would do this on a monthly basis but we have had a flood of new members so, this just can't wait. Therefore, we would like to wish a very warm welcome to Gwynedd, batwrangler, whv, Dennis Lively, capnhook, covertpen, sid, chad234, Karin, dleibow, penguy, Pedro, John, Penzilla and Pensketcher. Yes Sirs and Mesdames, we are mighty glad to have you all as company. You all know Dennis Lively, who has just taken up the position of Resident Pen Doctor :) And penguy who has posted his latest creation on our Trade forum. BTW, David Tulk or dtulk joined us last month. I know covertpen, sid, Pedro and a number of others from other forums. I am sure you will like it here. Please don't go into lurk mode and post something. Well, at least start a new topic in this Welcome forum and introduce yourself. We'd love to hear from you :D

It´s a hobby of mine , I´m trying to replicate the feeling of a flex nib with a touch sensitive drawing board and some software , the pen part needs some tweaking but on the other hand I´m getting good at digital oil painting :)

Pedro,

On this system I have only a mouse. Once you get accustomed to doing all your input with a tablet and pen, the mouse just seems so clunky and awkward. I've played around a little with trying to do calligraphy with mine.

what s/w are you using?

Hi Gang,

This is my second welcome post for the week. And what a weekend this will be; with the SF and North Texas Pen Show going on :) Well, a very warm welcome to Manfred, Maja, wintersolem, joyn, Keith with a capital 'you know what', robastyk and the Wahlnut. Manfred is a Pen maker so, David Tulk and penguy will be having good company. I know Maja from PT, welcome Maja :) joyn looks familiar, I know I have seen this name somewhere. Care to fill us in joyn? And most of you know Keith, the man with the pliers from hell  Seriously, Keith is a noted Sheaffer repairman but he is good with other makes as well :D He'll be good company to Dennis L. our resident Pen Doctor. Ah, our famous liberal, robastyk. Is there a more authoritative person than Rob on Waterman? He will say people like David Nishimura have the edge on him. But we know he is lying don't we? Likewise, is there another who is the word on Wahl-Eversharp than the Wahlnut? Well, we are mighty glad to have all of you on board.

I have not mention this before but all of you new here, every member has a personal Messenger. It can be accessed from My Control at the top right of every page. And on the immediate right of it is YOUR number of messages if you have any. There are a host of things you can do in My Control So, be sure to explore all the features. Okay, those of you who have yet to post, please come out of lurk mode and post something. A good start would be to introduce yourselves in this Welcome forum. Have fun :D

FC - I never knew I was a noted Sheaffer repair-person... :D

I am actually more like the GP of pen doctors and there are only a few makes and models I don't work on primarily due to scarcity or a lack of a sufficient stock of proper parts.

About half of my work actually involves creating custom nibs while the other half is composed of restoring a wide variety of makes and models.

Cheers!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
