Platinum Mix Free Ink Recipes

phentrek

Recommended Posts

It appears that several people, me included, are ordering one of the various Platinum Mix Free sample kits available. I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread where people can share the recipes cooked up with these kits. I hope people will post sample pictures along with recipes for colors they've created using the kits.

Notes: mixed using single drops of ink into an artist's palette to conserve ink. The pen was a flexible crisp italic dip nib with a crappy holder that was coming apart during the session. Switched to an oblique nib holder halfway through.

Nice work!

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Greetings AG,

Thank you very much for posting this... BTW, please remind me to kill you later. ;)

So many beautiful combinations; I'll never know what to load my pen(s) with anymore! That QB + LG looks like a very close match to New York Central Jade, (an old railroad color I'm fond of).

All the best,

Sean :)

Altec, have you eaten and slept yet? LOL! I can picture you working feverishly on these like you are trying to find the cure for cancer. It's really obvious how much fun you are having. Has anyone checked the water-proofness of the basic bottles?

AG, did you only do that one with the dilutant ("DL") so far? I'm wondering how well that works.

Actually, I have a good memory (I think), but I don't remember ever having seen such a fast and complete and overwhelming reply.

Water resistant. Seems a bit better than Iroshizuku. They are not fully waterproof like Platinum's Carbon Black.

The words remain quite legible while wet even the color bleeds. It may become better if the ink has had time to really dry.

No No! No!!

I have have enough trouble keeping my OCD in check with a single bottle of ink. (And some know what happens when I do something so simple as mix water with ink.)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
