Inks With A "sheen"

Thanks! That worked :-). I should now have a bottle on the way. Dog knows how long it will take to get here from Sweden, though. We'll see!

From the US to Sweden it takes about one 7-10 days depending on the shipping service selected. I guess the trip over the pond doesn't take long, it's the rest of the trip that can be a bit lengthy.

From Goulet's to my office it usually takes 7 days...

Has Macassar been mentioned yet?

This was with a Baoer 801 fine on BnR spiral. I also tried with my M150 fine and while the line was wetter and somewhat darker, the sheen was much harder to see.

Out of curiosity, how does one tell whether an ink has actual sheen or if it's just shiny/reflective from ingredients in the formula? As you can see, the 'shiny' is pretty uniform, rather than heavier on the end of strokes where the ink pools

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Wow, that is beautiful.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Kuretake Zig Cartoonist Black, though not for fountain pens, seems to have a certain sheen to it too. Or is this a different effect?

I'm thoroughly loving browsing this thread. This beautiful inky concoction on TR caught my eye. Must have! (Thinking how lovely for Christmas cards and so much more!!) Would you mind sharing, please? For the gorgeous BSIAR + Rouge Hematite above, what was your ratio? TRULY GORGEOUS!!! Thank you for sharing your photo, and I hope you'll share the recipe.

Okay, here are my photos---Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses + J. Herbin's Rouge Hematite for green sheeny goodness. Makes me want to mix R.H. with everything now.

The funky thing is how the ink "changes color"---it still looks like BSIAR when wet, but dries to what you see in these photographs. Very cool!

Anyone else who gets a quite distinctive green halo with Iroshizuku Tsukushi?

I haven't been able to take a photo, the artificial light in my office combined with my iPhone...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
