Raduga-2 Ink (Russia)

Hero red ink can be had for only $3.94 including shipping to the USA for a 60 ml bottle - that's cheap! I haven't tried the red but I did buy two bottles of Hero blue and it's quite nice, especially for the price!

For the 20x series, that's about the same price from a dealer in the city but the train or bus fare would be more than the price; still very affordable though. I have a couple of bottles of 201 red; it's an intense, jab-in-the-eyes red, but our fellow correspondents who reviewed it did not think much of it as reported here, here and here (the last one may or may not be 201); there again, not being waterproof can be a virtue too. The other inks in the series are more than acceptable, especially the 203 blue.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

I have the 233 blue. I'm very pleased with it.

Based on the reviews you cited, I'll skip the red. I might try their 232 blue-black, though I already have two full bottles of Pelikan 4001 blue-black, probably enough to last me the rest of my natural life.

The 23x is another series altogether with domed bottles: 231 red, 232 blue-black, 233 blue, and 234 carbon. Oddly enough its regular dye black is 284; their numbering system is a total mess. Oddly enough I bought a bottle of Pelikan 4001 blue-black ages ago, perhaps 30 years or so, and still hate it, as it wrote really light. That explains why it is still half-full.

It does seem to write light but I wouldn't really know as I have nothing to compare it to. You can't buy this ink in the USA anymore as the government prohibits its importation, something about the formulation. So when I saw two bottles available on Ebay I impulsively jumped on it. What blue-black do you now use, if any?

The selection available in Sydney is limited, in fact much more limited than in Melbourne. What I can find is a small dealer in the City who sells, would you believe, the basic Hero 20x inks, so if I use blue-black it's the 202. I still have half a bottle of the Pelikan blue-black 4001 I bought about 30 years ago, and I still cannot like it.

But I have been aware of Raduga inks for quite some time, as a functional ink for making legible marks on paper I cannot see how it is less good than anything else. Somehow I envy those living in countries where what we consider as desirable exoticas are taken for granted to the point that they're astoundingly inexpensive.

Hey everyone, guess what has popped up on the US 'Bay, blue, black, and PURPLE Raduga ink. A vender from the Ukraine has it $9.99 per 70ml bottle with $8.00 per bottle shipping. I just put in an order for a bottle.

Thanks, for the heads up on this ink.

My bottle arrived this week. Shipped in a slightly padded envelope, wrapped on plastic and tape. The bottle has a date of 04.12 on it, so might be technically out of date. A bright light does not show any signs of gunk clinging to the sides of the bottle, so I guess still OK. I have not opened the bottle yet, I think I will order a bottle of phenol and dose the bottle, as well as some other inks I have opened and not using up quickly.

Note to self, must write more...

I sent a bottle to the Toronto ink review committee a month ago. I hope that we will be seeing their review soon. I would do another one, but I am living in a house under renovation, without heating at the moment, so cannot do it just yet.

Ooo, hope the renovations are completed and the heat is working before it gets colder.

I use the black quite regularly. I have between twenty and twenty five kinds of black ink. It is one of my favorites, and most of mine are expensive inks. I have bottles that have been open for several years and they are still fine. Currently, on eBay, you can get a much better price by ordering several at the same time, whereby you save on the shipping.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
