I think the Zoom nib is quite different as it has an 'iridium' hard tip. I read that it too has multiple widths depending on angle, like the Superscript.

I would also love to try a Zoom nib some day. The Superscript is fun...but it does feel cheap, and it takes a little getting used to as well.

Yeah, so I guess it's the same idea but an expensive vs cheap option. Oh well, I was wanting to try a Sailor 1911 (large or M) anyway, this adds to the craving.

Nice review! I nearly bought a Superscript the other day, and probably will eventually. I think it would be good for drawing if not the best for writing.

Maybe the nib would benefit from a bit of smoothing...

It's meant to be my korean name written in Chinese characters. I never write chinese characters, so the penmanship of it in the eyes of true chinese writers would be terrible

The first character is "Lee" (surname).

second is "sung" ('seng' in chinese) meaning heavenly

third is "gook" ('gwo' in chinese) meaning kingdom or nation

Great review -- your writing with the Superscript looks about like mine. You were asking about the scratchiness of the 4-in-1 nibs. I have two different pens with this nib (Superscript and Profit Superscript), and both tend to be scratchy just as yours is. They are a little better if you don't press too hard, although it is not easy to both ease up on the pressure AND vary the angle while you write.

Thank you so much for this advice!

It made a huge difference  I wrote gently, and then the glass started to appear half full :) (I was anxious before)

Hi,

It is a bit sharp and a bit scratchy at the point that you mention. :(

I had one of these before I joined FPN, and I pitched it because it was scratchy. (Now I would keep it to mess around with nib smoothing or some other frankensteinish experiment!)

Isn't sanity really a one-trick pony, anyway? I mean, all you get is one trick, rational thinking! But when you're good and crazy . . . ooh hoo hoo hoo! . . . the sky's the limit!

Hi,

We could with electrical arc welding and such, but I don't think it is worth it. :(

I don't do tipping currently, later maybe, but not now. :( If I asked Cross if I could borrow their machines, I wonder.

Sorry I missed this review when it was posted. But the blue ink you used is amazing! What ink is that?

Yep, I missed it too.

Thanks for the review Sam. You seem to have been busy buying lately??

It is interesting how you point out the potential use as a highlighter. Nice touch for the review.

It's the result of Quink Washable Blue, and a bad photoshopping  :roflmho:

The original doesn't look like that shade of blue at all, but I had to darken it on Photoshop to make it easier to read.

london, I was able to go on a bit of pen shopping after I graduated

I pointed out its potential as a highlighter, because the website I bought it off (pendemonium) said that they recommended Noodler's Firefly with the pen /:)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
