I have pm'd both mods twice now - the first around Dec. 15th, then Brian Anderson again yesterday and Gerry today. They must be away, maybe not receiving their emails or too busy. It's getting a bit discouraging because this is a great resource for everyone and I'm really not sure why they aren't responding, other then for sometimes life get's in the way.

Edit spelling goof.

I saw this great post sinking into the mass of data and saved it onto my PC, as a document on the desktop.

I have been away for three weeks taking care of my mother who fell and suffered a broken hip.

The article will be stickied...

Gerry, I sincerely hope all is well with your mom and that she is recovering and getting her mobility back. Life sure has a way of smacking us upside the head when we least expect it. I hope that you also are breathing a little easier now - that's an awful scare for anyone to have gone through, especially when it's one of your folks.

Thank you so much for making this a sticky article. Very much appreciated.

Yes, she is doing as well as can be expected. People heal slowly at 93 so it will be some time before she's up and around like usual. It was pretty frightening at first though.

All your positive thoughts and good wishes are appreciated.

Warm regards,

Gerry

This really is an excellent index that I'm sure took a lot of time to comprise.

Thanks maynes and to our Mods for pinning it.

Where can a buy another nib for my "Estie?" Would like a broad nib. Love the one I have. C.

Anderson's Pens has a very good selection of Estie nibs for, IMO, reasonable prices. And there's always eBay.

Life's too short to use crappy pens.  -carlos.q

Don't be discouraged, I have never received a PM, also, been gone to the Philly show and just got back late Monday night. I'll look into this once I have settled down later this week.

Edit: I see Gerry took care of it. Thanks Gerry!

Hello,

I was pretty excited yesterday to find an SJ in cobalt blue at a flea market. It needs some work and I want to do it myself. I am looking to find a jewel cap & clip for a SJ cobalt blue, it is a screw type cap. The sac needs to be replaced and I was wanting to know how to determine what size sac is needed? I have seen a few different numbered sac's and want to make sure I buy the correct one. I also have a hairline crack in the body of the pen and wanted to know the best glue to use on it?

Thank you in advance.

Size 16. This will work on practically all Esterbrook. You can put an 18 in a Dollar pen, but even those will fit a 16.

Is there any guide for repairing the plunger-fill Safari handy?

You can go out to the Esterbrook forum level and search "this forum" with the word "plunger". There are two or three threads showing the subjects, one showing the innards, etc. The closest thing I could find to the plunger-fill sac is a Waterman small ink-vue sac (IMS).

Best Regards
Paul

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
