Platinum finally put out a page on their upcoming Mix Free inks.

Here is the link to the Mix Free page with a sufficiently big color chart that shows the binary mixes. Pretty cool.

Very interesting. Such a pallet from just a few inks.

I must try one of these. I guess it's too much to hope for waterproofness, but still must have some of these.

In some things in life it's better to take a Zen approach. If you think too much you won't achieve your goal, wheras if you don't think and let yourself go, it shall be achieved with ease. I find this helpful in writing, kendo and music.

According to the initial report about these inks, they are supposed to be waterproof.

Anyone else think this is a trap? If one is good, it will suck you into buying another one just to mix with the first one, and then you keep buying to make more colors, until you have the entire collection :glare: .

Fountain Pen Travel/display Case out of stock now. Found new materials. People in the wait list will be contacted, slowly. Thank you!

Hi,

IMHO its not a trap - its a Vortex.

Spoiled for choice - yet again.

There are two fundamental aspects that I like: 1) The inks are designed to be mixed - no need to wear my PPE Nomex bunny suit & orange fishnet stockings. 2) A person can choose the portion of the array to explore, without investing in a full set.

Also, I like to think that the results will be more predictable than the ad hoc approach, hence not wasting time & materials.

Getting the preferred density (light-dark) may not be so easy, but I reckon to give it a twirl. (I just heard my ink shelves groan & sigh.)

Bye,

Was a time I'd have gone nuts with this collection and done just that. Don't really have the time or space anymore but I am really looking forward to hearing what everyone experiences with these.

Maybe they will sell them as a set. I think I'd do it. I wouldn't have to buy any more ink for a year...not like I need any more ink for 10 years as it stands right now, but...

I will buy all of these when they are available. I do not have any colored inks except Waterman red so these will provide all of my color needs.

I'm waiting for Ricky to buy all the colors and bring the results of his mixing to Pen Posse, ha ha ha! He could fill a pen with each color. Oooh!

I agree completely.

Anyone know when or where these will be available? Does it line up at all with the FPN pens?

Good plan. You know me too well.

I'll probably buy several bottles of each and we'll have a special Pen Posse Ink Mixing Edition.

It is true I can bring a pen ink with each binary mix. That's would be a lot of work and cleaning.

The release date is unknown. It was supposed to be in April but things are getting pushed back in Japan for many things. This update only appeared on Platinum's Japanese website a few days ago even though Platinum sort of announced these inks unofficially at the Ito-ya event earlier in the year. . Brian Goulet said he already contacted Platinum when word first broke of these inks and said he would carry them.

Uh-oh... I'm in trouble, then. I will find a way to justify some more ink purchases...

You guys can come over and help mix the 40 odd binary combinations for the Pen Posse. Ink mixing party at my place. Although, I'm not sure I want to ink up 40 odd pens. That's what dip pens are for. But we could.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
