Nice Coverage Ricky! Some day, I will be in a picture for you, smiling, not fuzzy or off guard, I promise! :)

Bry

The picture with you and Sarj was pretty good.

NICE!

Oh, I know I'll like your nibs. I always like your nibs. I've got my Nakayas with me to battle the nib envy -- or nib coveting.

Ha ha ha, about being married still. Did Sandi get a pen, hm? Are your converting her...?

Sandi spent much of the time out and about, successfully avoiding the pen crowd. I've tried to convert her, but there was that red ink fiasco...

I managed to finally meet Bryant, and for some reason, my photos came out a bit blurry too! Nice pens there Bryant and I can't wait to take some of them off your hands! :)

Super kudos Ricky ~ This may be the best EVER pen show pictorial review!!! We are all blessed by the way you captured and displayed it and your encouraging, friendly presence. It filled in the missing pieces for me since my nose was so kept to the literal grind stone I did not get to see a lot beyond my tale boundaries. It really makes me want to be at the San Francisco Show!

Thanks to all you other guys who made it such a joy: Ron, Loren, Todd and of course "he whom must not be named" ... and all the lovely ladies who graced the show by daylight. What a fabulous gathering of peeps and pens!

Blessings to all ~

Pendleton

PS ~ As discussed Ricky, I expect to be borrowing a few of your fine/fun photos for a Pennant review.

Oh yes. The Red Ink.

Aw... I'm sad I missed the evil Evil Pen Purveyor. Drat.

And Pendleton, too.

Double drat.

Stupid other priorities.

Actually, not stupid. Actually, more important than (I KNOW BUT I'M GOING TO SAY IT ANYWAY) pens.

I hope everyone comes to the San Francisco Pen Show in October. Because I'm selfish that way.

Thank you very much for the great review. I have been to several shows in Atlanta and I love the experience. I'm very excited about the upcoming show in April. Your review makes me want to make more of a weekend of it and go to more shows. I would really like to go to the DC show someday!

No problem PB. You can find more pics on my Flickr site. I culled the pictures from the larger group to tell this story.

No. It was pretty easy. I was out of money. :roflmho:

I walked away from a lot of pens. About 10-12 other vintage Italians, a bunch of Parker Vac from Sarj, the red Danish Wahl Personal point, etc.

I thank everyone who advised me as a newbie to cough up the extra $ to go on the non-public days. It was truly worth the extra, and I should have gone on Friday as well as Saturday!

I took in 4 seminars, got Pendleton Brown to modify the nib on my Waterman Exclusive to a cursive italic, met Mr TWSBI aka Speedy, lunched with the So Cal/LA Pen Posse, bought 2 pens - an italic Duofold Pearl and a mint Parker 51 (another 51 that doesn't cost $50) - and had a blast meeting Bjor and buying all sorts of great paper items at her RefillMonster booth. I barely saw 20% of the displays.

The seminars were so informative; watching John Mottishaw adjust a badly-performing nib in the near-darkness of the seminar room with his LED loupe, his thumbnail and a bit of soft abrasive cloth was amazing. The dealers and experienced pen people were so kind to the newbie, and a couple of them generously ID'd my odd-ball pens, my 1960s Tip-Dip Sheaffer (or is it Dip-Tip?), and my 1980s Pilot Minuet.

Wow, I am so envious right now. We barely even have a pen show in Australia, let alone up north here in Gold Coast/Brisbane. This would present some serious temptations. Hope everybody in attendance enjoyed themselves and grabed something special.

By the way, great coverage of the show.

Wow Ricky, thanks for that report!

If I can get to the pen show can I hang out with you so I can see the, uh, secret pens from under the table?

Ricky, could you provide a link to your Flicker site with the photos? Thanks!

If you double click any of my pictures on this thread it will take you to my Flickr site. From there just click on my Photostream. I've organized the pics by the day into sets.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
