How to post pictures on FPN

Is it possible to use picasaweb to host photos that are viewable in the post? I've tried a few ways to post and received a message that says

"Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed" Thanks,Len

len, i wasn't able to get picasa to work either..probably size/compression related?

finally tried an old/basic flickr account, and it easily uploaded.

photobucket might be another option.

There are two ways --

One - The easy way.

Find the image you want in your Picasaweb album, right click on it and select "Copy Image Address"

Then in FPN select the "Insert Image" button and paste the copied image address.

Two - a slightly more complicated way

Find the image you want in your Picasaweb album, and click on "Link to this Photo on the right.

Select the image size you want with the "Select size" button, e.g. Medium 400px.

Select and copy everything in the Embed image pane.

Paste what you have copied into the FPN edit pane.

Below that pane, where it says Post Options, select HTML On.

If you click the Hide Album Link button in Picasaweb, you don't get the link back to your album

Make sure the HTML On - Auto Linebreak Mode is selected before you submit your post.

Thank You David! your clear tutorial ought to be pinned for quick access-

took alot of reading/trial and error to figure out and post as I did..

ultimately, it seemed as though I'd have to allow access to all of my picasa albums, so decided to avoid this by using flickr... you've provided the steps that would allow photo sharing here, and maintaining privacy:)

Copied here from another thread.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2750/4247801638_715e0c20fc_m.jpg

There's a pinned topic here, but I'll give it another go:

First, a few issues:

  • The current software is broken and does not support direct uploading of images.
  • You need to link to an image on an external webhosting site such as Flickr or Photobucket.
  • The image you link to must be a .jpg .png or .gif file. If the URL does not have one of those extensions, the link will not work.
    This will work:
    http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2750/4247801638_715e0c20fc_m.jpg

    This will not work:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/kev_no_shashin/4247801638/

  • Use the full editor in FPN. It has buttons for adding links to images picture.png and webpages link.png

Open the FPN full editor in a browser tab.

For Flickr:

Open a new tab in your browser and go to your Flickr account.

In the photo page, there's a link above the image that says "All sizes". Click on that.

You will get a page with a large copy of the image, and a set of links above it like this one: Flickr large image.

Scroll down below the image to the section that looks like this:

To link to this photo on other websites you can either:

1. Copy and paste this HTML into your webpage:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/kev_no_shashin/4247801638/"
title="SSS by Kev.1, on Flickr"><img
src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com
/2750/4247801638_715e0c20fc_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683"
alt="SSS" /></a>

2. Grab the photo's URL:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2750/4247801638_715e0c20fc_b.jpg

You want the URL: select and copy the URL code.

Now go back to your FPN tab and click on the picture.png button. A little dialog comes up: Insert image.

Paste your URL in the dialog then click on the "Insert image" button.

Your edited text now has something like the following in it:

That's your image. To get smaller images, click on the Small or Medium links in the Flickr download page. and follow the same procedure. I generally use the medium size. That way, I'm safe from the Wet Squad (which does not exist).

The user conditions of Flickr demand that you provide a link back to the photo page. Use the link.png button for this. Here's my code for the image above:

[img]http:
//farm3.static.flickr.com/2750/4247801638_715e0c20fc_m.jpg[/img]

For other webhosting sites, the basics are similar. dcwaites gives a good explanation of the Picasaweb procedure in his post, here.

This is really brain stretching stuff for Troglodytes like me - how about a Youtube demo from someone, otherwise people like me will be forever in the land that time forgot!! All this stuff reminds me of the beginning of computing with DOS commands etc. Totally beyond me I'm afraid.

I tried Picasaweb for images I used on another forum, but found it to be terribly glitchy with images often not showing up when they should have done. In the end I went back to Photobucket and also got myself a Flickr account.

I did a guide for posting images in the Sales forum giving screenshots showing how to link an image on here now that the add attachment feature no longer works.

Imageshack provides link codes that work on FPN's forum.

Here's oneill's problem image, which I'll use as an example:

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/6601/imgp1174.th.jpg

If you click on the image above, you will reach his actual image page.

On the right of the page, you'll find a bunch of boxes containing copyable links for web posts.

Under Embed this image, highlight the code in the Forum box. Copy and paste into your FPN post.

Alternatively, under Embed thumbnails of this image, highlight the code in the Forum box. Copy and paste into your FPN post.

It should look something like this:

I think that flikr.com is the best. Except when I copy their html link for the image, some extra POTTY-MOUTH creeps in and I get a message that I am not allowed to do what I want. I ignore the message, find that extra symbol, cut the POTTY-MOUTH off, and o-la-la! It took me some practice to find out what that POTTY-MOUTH from flikr is. But now, I am happy with it.

Can someone tell me if I can post pictures to FPN via iPhone? I don't have a computer and I do all my Internet browsing with my iPhone. I would appreciate any guidance on this subject.

:crybaby: Sigh...I have been working this entire weekend to 1. photograph about ten pens for sale, 2. research prices, 3. learn how to upload the photos to photobucket, and then .... when I clicked "post", while holding my breath, I got an error notice telling me I had not entered the "secure code". Can't find an explanation for what this is anywhere, even on the "help" forum. I pray that my text-and-photos hang in "copy" while I get help. I'm too afraid to touch any button that would erase eight hours' (just today!) work. Does this have to be so difficult?! Obviously I'm not the only one struggling with just trying to post some text and photos...

Try to do a refresh, let the browser resend any information, and if it stil doesn't do anything, use the back button, once, to try and get back to the previous screen.

If that doesn't help either, try using the back button once more.

If that still doesn't help, I am afraid you may have to type the stuff out again.

For important stuff like this, personally I always type in a Word document, or in a notepad document, before even trying to post here, and copy and paste the stuff from Word or Notepad. I also do previews all the time, so I can see what it does. The advantage of using the preview button a lot is that you can easily go back to th elast previewed version, because that is stored by your browser in the temp files storage somewhere on your computer. Using the back button will always bring you back to that last version.

WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO BE SO HARD????????

Hard is relative. Anything done for the first time may be difficult. It is just a matter of trying it out in parts, or rather small steps, preferably with not very important stuff. Once you get it all working, it is time to do more complex stuff.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
