Montgomery pens

I am still confused. Is Montgomery Pens (montgomerypens.com) and Montgomery Stationery (on eBay) the same place? I have purchased from the online store. The pen was well priced, shipped quickly, and was exactly as represented.

No dealing with the eBay seller.

Yes.

The prices are high, but they often have pens that nobody else has, and their pens are usually new old stock in excellent condition.

My first contact with them was ordering (ebay) a Parker 100 EF. The pen came as ordered, but something was rattling around in the nib. I flushed the nib, and blue ink came gushing from this 'new' pen. I called back and spoke to someone who wanted to argue. I sent the pen back. The 'replacement' pen ( which I believe to be the original pen)came back in a much cheaper Parker box. This 'replacement' pen does the same thing. That's not the incident I was speaking about several posts above. I ordered, during the interim, a Parker Centennial Duofold, which never got to me, and the pen shop there in NY not only refused to replace the pen or credit my card, but expected me to do all the tracking. Uh-uh. So, it was settled in my favour.

Never again.

I ordered two pens from them from their online store. I expected the pens to be New in Box but was astonished to notethat the more expensive pen was used.

Has anyone ordered from Montgomery pens before? Any good/bad comments on them.

I just wanted to know because thier prices are very low, but I like to check around before I order anything. ;)

I bought a pen from this guy two years ago and it was the worst eBay experience I've had to date. First he sent me the wrong pen, then he refused to take it back for an exchange, so I had to do a Paypal chargeback, which was very time consuming because he denied everything. He was also very rude in every communication I had with him. I would not recommend doing business with this person.

I bought a Namiki Bamboo from them but I went to the store in NY to pick it up(very close to my Apt. actually). I got to look the pen over in person and bought it on the spot. I planned to buy other pens from them because of the low price--sorry to hear others had such bad experiences. Kind of turns me off from buying from them.

I have bought from them a few times and never had a problem.

I ordered a pen from them. The pen in the picture on ebay was not the pen they sent. The pen I got was exaactly as described though. I thought it was a little high but they were the only ones selling this specific pen that I was looking to find. (A vintage, German-made Papermate, made by the same company that made Montblancs at that time.)

My first transaction w/them (montgomerypens.com) has been less than stellar. They charged my CC before the product shipped. I placed 3 telephone calls in 1 week and each time I was told I would get a reply about the status of my order...nothing.

Yes, I recently ordered a Pilot Knight in burgundy. I have been looking everywhere for one, they seem to be somewhat hard to find. I looked on their website and it said they had them and they were in stock. So I ordered. A week later, no pen, no communication that it ha shipped. But my account had been charged for the pen. I called, the phone salesperson was rude (as most NY phone salespeople are...) and he told me right away that they were backordered. So I cancelled and asked him to please refund my money. He said Oh, we havent charged you yet. I said Oh yes you have, I'm looking at my account. The tone of his voice through all this was that he was annoyed or something that he had to deal with me.

No more orders from them. They're off my list of preferred vendors.

Do you like Thrillers? Read The El Morro Connection. You can find it on Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.com in the ebook section. Soon it'll be available in hardcopy. It's written by C. Clayton Lewis. And that would be me. Let me warn you, don't start reading it the night before you have to get up early...

I bought my Waterman Phileas F from them a while back. No complaints. They also list some unusual, no-same student Watermans.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Wow. I wish I had read this a week ago.

I ordered 2 Phileas fin nibs that are set to be deliverd today. They are supposed to be new. I will post again when they get here regarding thier condition.

I ordered from them because I wanted new Phileases with F nibs which are no longer made. The chance to get a new one was too tempting...

My same experience exactly. Talked with "Abe" and he told me that it was merely a "hold" on my CC not a purchase. I told him that was wrong and I would give it till the end of the week then I'll do a charge-back. I expect companies to not charge my card till the product is shipped. Their communication w/customers is very poor.

I've ordered a Fisher Space Pen and a few Parkers from them. The first Parker I ordered was through Ebay and I payed with PayPal. Because the ordering was automated, the transaction went smoothly. However, when I tried contacting them with some basic questions for the next purchase, they were very hard to reach. When I did reach them, they were not very friendly. A second time I called on a Friday, I think, at noon, and the guy rudely said "We're closing now!" Boy! With worst economy I've seen in my lifetime, you'd think they'd want to work on their customer service skills. Anyway, the last item I ordered directly from their website and paid using CC, and I haven't received the item yet. The order was placed on Friday 12th. Today is the 22nd and still no pen. When I called last week to inquire about the shipping, they said they shipped it on Tueday 16th. Why did they have to wait so long before shipping. Anyway, Fountain Pen Hospital was much, much nicer. Then I also called Classic Fountain Pens, Inc. and they had superior customer service. I definitely plan to buy all of my future pens from Classic Foutain Pens. If there is a pen they don't carry, then I'll turn to FPH, but not Montgomery Pens anymore.

I have bought three pens from them, and my only complaint is that I lost the "ocean blue" Sonnet with gold nib. It worked beautifully until someone swiped my three-pen carrier with Sonnet and P51 aero.

The Ocean Blue Sonnet was about $109, and arrived a few days after I ordered it. Last weekend I "won" their auction for another Ocean Blue Sonnet with gold nib. It arrived Friday.

Oh, and if you think "New York pen stores", think Art Brown as well as Fountain Pen Hospital. Both are great places!

The one pen that I purchased from them was just as advertised, though their shipping rates seem awfully high to me.

--J. Haney

I do agree with J. Haney their shipping charges are outrageous most times and only if you get a great deal, its hardly worth dealing with them. They are very rude also. Manny D.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
