Okay, I'm down to my last ink review for today. If the sun is nice out tomorrow, I'll post a few more.

This ink was a bit of a pain to get. A nice FPNer agreed to sell me their two unopened bottles but they live in Germany. The shipping was expensive and extremely long, but I eventually did get my inks. They were very well packaged and I appreciated the FPNer's patience with my few, slightly nervous PMs. :smile:

This ink is probably the 'truest' orange I've ever tried. It's brighter than Herbin's Orange Indien, and far less red than almost all other orange inks I've tried. I definitely feel this ink is perfect on days where I want something bright, happy and uncomplicated that behaves perfectly.

Lovely review of a lovely ink. I was lucky enough to snag a bottle of this last year and I really enjoy writing with it. I have the Caran d'Ache Saffron as well but the two inks have different qualities that make it possible to have both and enjoy them equally, I think. It's funny that I adore orange ink so much when I'm not a fan of it for anything else.

Huh. Mine looks different, I think. It comes in one of the newer, squarish MB bottles. I'll take a picture and upload it later tonight.

 

I also have the newer, squarish bottle. Identical packaging, though.

I never could find a bottle of this ink, which was disappointing as I have a thing for orange inks--they are so cheerful!--and it looks like a very nice color. I really like your close-ups to show the shading!

Makes sense as these Gandhi pens and Saffron orange ink came out right in the middle of their new bottle changeover, so having some in new bottles makes sense. These from Stylo match the ones I got from a botique in NYC.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

I just love the shading! Oh well, yet another ink for my wish list. :happyberet: The J. Herbin orange indien and the Abraxas sandalwood ink are a bit too dark for my taste, guess I'll be happier with this one.

I was able to buy a bottle of this ink from a thoughtful FPNer. It arrived today, and I immediately filled a pen with it. I love the color! The shading is excellent. It's a very bright, cheerful orange, similar to Sailor Kin-mokusei (but the Ghandi ink has better shading).

I bought 3 bottles from my local jeweller who sells MB pens - they asked the MB rep and got it ordered for me that way. Any of them can do it - just find your nearest MB stockist and ask. If you have a problem, I can see if they will order me some more and I can post it on?

You can't have too many fountain pens.....

FWIW another dirty joke about MB. I't true, honestly. I first tried to buy this ink in a MB boutique. The sales freaks there said that {a} it had been discontinued, no longer available, and {b} if it someday would be available again, then only in connection with a simultaneous purchase of a MB pen. Sooo.... I tried my luck with Rolf and received it (no new pen necessary) by mail two days later.

This appears a tad bit darker than the Caran d'Ache Saffron, and is really bright, brilliant!

Yes, one leedle wee wafer thin mint did the trick. I don't know whether or not that many buckets full of inks would have been any worse....

Great review of a great ink. I managed to get a bottle for free at my local MB boutique. The manager and I had a nice conversation about ink and pens and as I was paying for my ink he gave me the Gandhi ink as a gift. I was surprised and very thankful. Now, the problem is getting more and where to find it. I believe my store is all out.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
