Very Poor Quality Parker Bp/gel Refill

Not a fan of the gel refills. However, I've tried three of the new QuinFlow refills in both blue and black. While they're not quite on par with Uni's Jetstream, the lower-viscosity ballpoint ink is very smooth and lightyears ahead of the old ballpoint refill. I would give one a try.

I have found that pound shop gel pens, 4 packs, 5 packs etc work as good as or slightly better than Parker gel refills. The ones made by Linc anyway. (They also make pens for Paper Mate and Staedtler among others)

Yay for Poundland :)

I keep an eye open in the various pound shops (these are shops where everything is for sale at £1 UK for those who are wondering) for cheap international FP ink cartridges. They sometimes have large bags of them, for, well £1 :) Even if the ink isn't of the best quality they are great for cheap FPs foe everyday use. Anyway, I digress and apologise. I wonder if anybody has seen either G2 gel or ball point refills in any pound shops? How about such places as Home Bargains?

I've been writing with the Easyflow 9000 blue refills. I tried several blue Quinkflow refills and they all

seem to write a light/faint blue ...the Easyflows just put more ink on the paper. I've learned that the Easyflows have a date code on the top and ones from 2012 (2xx on the top) write well. They do start to skip and fade after awhile and never completely run out like a regular ballpoint refill. I just have not had good luck with the Quinkflows.

I accidently bought a pack of 7 Linc "Gliss" ball pens today, I was in a rush and thought it was another one of their gel pen models. I did a comparision test against a Parker ball point, the writing quality is about equal, the Linc has a stronger colour though and the Linc is smoother and easier to write with. I don't know if age would be a factor but the Parker refill is quite a few years old.

I own about 40 or so desk sets, most use fountain pens with six require parker refills. I went to an office supply store and got 6 packs of their medium gel refills (made in the UK). After about 2 months, the refills started to make inconsistent lines or have dried up altogether. Normally, I'd just buy new ones. However, the quality for such a prestigious brand is deplorable considering the ubiquitous Japanese brand gel pens (entire pen/not just a bloody refill) write literally 10x better at 1/2 or 1/3 the cost. I have visited several stores and have not found alternatives compatible with the Parker design. Please help.

Yes, Gel refill are not pleasurable writting experience. I suggest use standard Parker Ballpoint. If you push hard on the paper , maybe could obtain a nice result. Scratchy. Unreliable. Inconsistent. Definitively is a NO NO. :headsmack:

I bought some Tesco gel pens to try, 6 for £1.50, blues, blacks and red. The colours are stronger than Parker and Linc.

  • 4 years later...

I am not capable to recognize the new from the old one yet if I don 't give a try. The writing difference is extreme, but the cartridge seems the same!

I'm referring to the old and the new version of the quinkflow. The new is excellent, feels so smooth and is more solid than a gel but doesn 't smear, while the previous traditional ballpoint is draggy and pale.Totally different thing, I wish I could distinguish them visually only by the labeled name

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
