I have two currently but really like several.

Noodlers Walnut has been in my VP for 2 years now and I have not wanted to put anything else in there yet, but play with the idea once in a while.

Noodlers Black Swan in Austrailian Roses is a very close second, in my custom 74.

Noodlers Habanero is in my Platninum Preppy .03 but feel the toning is wasted in that pen...

I find I need more pens to hold my inks....

- Right now it's Waterman Violet. It's a vivid color (more so than most Waterman inks), it behaves beautifully and the flow is excellent.

MB Oyster Grey. Using it at work. The color is similar to graphite pencil with nice shading.

Montblanc Racing Green has been my favorite for over a year. Behind that are Diamine Mediterranean Blue and Chocolate Brown with Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku and J. Herbin Lie de Thé rounding out my top five. When I want something exciting but not for everyday use, Rohrer & Klingner Solferino and Magenta are my choices.

Sometimes I want to use a specific pen so it gets filled with an ink that performs well in it. That may not be a favorite ink but it's worth seeing a pen strut its best stuff.

Made the mistake of getting some MB Racing Green - since it arrived it's been permanently loaded in my Stipula... which goes everywhere with me for use with my Rhodia Webbie...

Diamine Red Dragon exerts a certain fascination as well - a very strong and well-behaved red.

Waterman's Havana Permanent. I like the colour and I don't like inks that will smudge if an inadvertent hand rests on them once they're dry.

When you're good at it, it's really miserable.

I didn't know Waterman made a permanent version of this ink.

Noodler's Black. I love that it is no fuss, no muss, and permanent.

For non-black: Sailor Blue-Black and Noodler's Walnut.

Currently impressing me: Montblanc British Racing Green. I'd tried it at least a year ago and liked it, but had bought Noodler's Zhivago at the same time and preferred that.

Because I had a box of MBRG cartridges, I popped one into a Mb 100-Year Historical the other night, and whoa! I like it! I like it A LOT!

My new inky discoveries are:

Diamine Midnight (which recently became my go-to dark blue ink)

Diamine Amazing Amethyst

Noodler's Black Swan

Noodler's Habanero

Private Reserve Avocado

My eternal favorites are still Montblanc Violet (Violet is my I-cannot-live-without-you purple ink) and Montblanc Racing Green (for its wonderful shading and quick cleaning).

I'm testing Waterman Florida blue and seems to be fine (different quality of papers gives me different saturation results).

Lamy Black (but want to try the Noodler's Black Waterproof)

Waterman Florida Blue. Love the color, great flow, very easy to clean and rinse off the pens. Did I mention I love the color?

I'm a user, baby.

Will change next week.

I agree - it seems like every time I fill a pen I find a new old favourite. Today it is PR Chocolat, but I have some new inks that should arrive in the mail this week...

Noodler's Midnight Blue for me. It was the first bottle of ink I bought and I guess I got lucky and picked a good one. It's still my favorite.

MB Racing Green is my favorite green, though PR Avacado and Diamine Evergreen aren't far behind.

Of the reds I've tried, Noodler's Tienanmen is probably my favorite, though Herbin 1670 and Diamine Ruby are both VERY nice (and the Diamine is better behaved - Tienanmen is slow drying on "hard" paper).

I haven't tried many browns, but Noodler's Walnut is probably my favorite so far (thanks to the Ink Drop!). Manuscript Sepia was also a very nice cheap surprise find.

I was a bit surprised to see MB Oyster Grey mentioned so often, as it seems to get overlooked too often. It's a nice understated ink, and one that's quite well-behaved. It's a pretty dry ink, but it's wonderful in a wetter pen and with flex nibs.

As far as blacks go, right now I'm pretty split between Aurora Black and PR Invincible Black. Both have excellent flow and lubrication, and both are BLACK. The PR does seems to be a bit better behaved on cheaper paper though...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
